Of course students are looking forward to the holidays that are coming up and the time off from school, but they are also enjoying all of the special activities That makes him well with our regular curriculum progression. Please make sure you’re talking to your child every night about their day and find out what they’re learning and what good things happened at school that day! It is indeed a great time to be at Tahoe Valley!

It was wonderful to see everyone's smiling faces after the week on break. We jumped back into learning and started our Holidays Around the World exploration. We learned about our first December holiday, "Hanukkah", and ended the week making latkes and playing spin the dreidel. Ask how to play at home!
If you haven't finished your Gingerbread Baby disguise project, there is still time to bring them on Monday so they join the bulletin boards.
Genuine and abundant thanks for the donations to our Holiday Baking gift baskets. They turned out amazing! May you have all the luck at Santa's Breakfast.

This Week in 1st Grade
Good Evening Everyone and Happy December,
We are glad to be back in school with our amazing first graders and we wanted to extend a huge thank you to those of you who were able to donate coffee and chocolate items for our grade level basket! Thank you!
This week was another great week in first grade with even more learning to be had. This week our classes took a closer look at the nonfiction genre to explore where animals live together. We also discussed some additional blends including the -nd, -st, and -nk ending words for our spelling patterns for the week. You children have also begun to learn about what a main idea is and what supporting details are which we continue to learn about throughout the school year. This week in math, our classes learned about various attributes of 2D and 3D shapes and we are beginning to learn about the teen numbers up to 20 and skip counting by 10’s and 5’s. It is so exciting to see some of our students who are still wearing their Thanksgiving bracelets, hopefully your child was able to recite the story of Thanksgiving to you using his/her bracelet to create a visual. In December we will look at holidays around the world and U.S. holidays and the similarities/differences. We will also be exploring soft and loud sounds and what volume is and how we can control the volume of a one-string guitar and a xylophone.
