Meet The Office Staff

Aliea Chapin

Hello my name is Aliea Chapin and I am a senior here at WMU studying early childhood elementary education. I have worked in the office for two years now and sadly this will be my last semester before my final internship. I am from a really small town called Watervliet and love running, meal prepping and spending time with friends and family. I am looking forward to seeing all of you in the fall!

Brandon Cifuentes

I am from the city of Grand Rapids, born and raised. I am a third year student here at WMU pursuing an accounting degree. I consider myself to be outgoing, supportive, and friendly. I can almost always find common ground with anyone and I like people to feel comfortable when they are around myself or others.


My family is one of my top priorities in life. I am the oldest of four brothers. My family originated from Guatemala, so I am Guatemalan-American. Most of the time, I love to spend it with my family and friends and I cherish every moment. I also like to spend time playing soccer, traveling, and going out with friends.

Hi! My name is Carmen Peck! I’m going to be a Junior at Western Michigan University, with a major in Criminal Justice and minor in Business. I’m so excited for this school year! Go Broncos!

Katelyn Wybenga

Hi TRIO! My name is Katelyn I am a senior here at Western studying Special Education. I have worked in the office for about a year now. I love spending my time outside hiking, camping, or hammocking curled up with a good book. I also love to protest and spread awareness about causes that are important to me.

Kira La Tarte

Hello everyone!

My name is Kira La Tarte and I have been a part of the TRiO office for about 6 months now! I am a senior here at WMU, and I will be in my pre-internship soon! I love to crochet and knit, and I have far too many books to count in my house. My major is Elementary Education, with a focus on Social Studies, and a minor in English; I also have a minor in general psychology. I’m a homebody who enjoys being with my family or game nights with friends!

Kyra Kuriata

Hello TRIO students! My name is Kyra Kuriata. I’m a junior here at Western and I major in Early Childhood Education. I've worked in the office for about 6 months now and I love the family I have created with them. I enjoy photography, traveling, learning about my family history, and watching movies. Fun fact I have been to 6 countries, in the second generation in my family to be born in America, and I’m a huge old movie fanatic. Some come into the office and talk to me about movies, family history, and everything else!

One Stop Center

WMU’s temporary One Stop Center is assembled on the second floor of the Bernhard Center each fall and spring semester to assist students and their families with an assortment of campus services in one centralized location. Those visiting One Stop will be able to purchase parking permits, get information on financial aid and student accounts, and get assistance with technology questions.


Representatives from several areas will be on hand to assist students and their families:

  • Accounts Receivable
  • Student Financial Aid
  • Information Technology
  • Parking Services
  • Registrar’s Office


An informational table will be set up for:

  • Career and Student Employment
  • Sindecuse Health Center
  • WMU Family Engagement Office (formerly Parent and Family Programs)


Fall One Stop Center Hours for Fall 2019:


  • August 24: 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • August 26 - 30: 10 a.m. to 5 p.m

Textbook Resources

Check out TRIO FESP's Books on Reserve before purchasing your text books this semester. Books on Reserve can be checked out from the office weekdays during business hours by any TRIO FESP participant. Participants may use any of these resources for up to 2 hours, as long as they agree to stay in Sangren Hall.

Scholarship Opportunities

Tutoring Resources

  • The Bronco Study Zone is located in 3374 Rood Hall and offers drop in assistance for many courses.
  • The Writing Center is located in 1343 Ellsworth Hall and offers assistance in writing for all courses, as well as career preparation.
  • The Developmental Math Tutor Lab is located in 3374 Rood Hall and provides help in MATH 1090, 1100 and 1110.
  • The TRIO Tutoring is located in 3530 Sangren Hall and provides tutoring in many different subjects.
