Come out this Saturday, January 27th, to support the 47 TUSD Elementary Robotics teams compete in the VEX IQ tournament at Orchard Hills. The tournament begins at 9:00 am and ends around 3 pm. Please email Cari Williams at cwilliams@tustin.k12.ca.us if you are interested in volunteering.

On Saturday, all six middle school robotics programs in TUSD competed in the middle school only VEX tournament hosted by TUSD Robotics at Orchard Hills School. The coaches and students have been working hard to prepare for this tournament which marks the pinnacle of the competitive season for many of our middle school robotics programs.

This year's game, In the Zone, is the hardest game we have seen yet in TUSD Robotics. The reason for this is that students have to make two different types of lifts integrated into the same robot. One is to move the mobile goal and the other is to pick up and place the cones on top of the mobile goal. The students did an amazing job finishing their robot designs and every single middle school team in TUSD was on the field playing with a working robot. For many, this is the first year they are building robots with the VEX EDR kits which use metal parts instead of the plastic parts in elementary VEX IQ. The learning curve is steep, but our students persevered and all found success this past Saturday!

The five Beckman students pictured below (John, Scott, Alan, Devin, and RJ) helped set up, referee, emcee, judge and clean up the tournament! These boys are always willing to help and have made a huge impact on the success of every tournament. TUSD Robotics thanks you for your time, energy and dedication!

On Sunday, January 23, Beckman Teams N, X, and Y competed in the Bishop VEX Tournament in La Jolla. All three teams placed in the top ten at the end of the qualifying matches. Congratulations to team X for willing the Design Award and Team N for winning the prestigious Excellence Award. Great job, Beckman Robotics!
