Westy Academy Weekly Newsletter
Week of Nov. 15th-19th 2021
A Message From the Principal...
Hello, Owls!
Can you believe that we are already one week away from Thanksgiving Break? With the holidays around the corner, Westy Academy has kicked off a "'Tis the Season of Giving" Classroom Competition to support those in need for the holidays.
We hope this friendly competition sparks conversations at home as to the reasons why giving is so important, the benefits it has on community, and the generosity donating promotes in children.
Our school donation drive can also promote connection right in your own neighborhood. If you have the time, take a walk with your student and knock on some neighbor's doors, kindly ask them if they have any items they would like to donate! Even one can of food makes a TREMENDOUS difference for a family in need!
As Mother Theresa wisely said, “It's not how much we give, but how much love we put into giving.”
All classroom donations will be gifted to the Have A Heart Program that directly benefits Westminster Public School families. http://www.haveaheart4kids.com/.
Separately, we are encouraging students 5 years and up to get the COVID vaccine! Make sure to mark your calendars for the free vaccine clinic occurring at the High School this weekend. Info is below, but as always, call our office if you have a question.
Have a great weekend!
Sincerely,
Mr. Warwick
"Tis the Season of Giving Classroom Competition!
Please join us in our efforts as we kick off our 1st annual “’Tis the Season of Giving” Classroom Competition! Each classroom will participate in a school-wide food and supply drive benefiting our local Have a Heart Project, which works to serve WPS students and families with basic needs, food, supplies and holiday presents. Starting Thursday November 11th, 2021 each classroom and all students will be encouraged to bring in various items for donation over the coming weeks.
Donated items are awarded specific points, with more sought-after items worth higher values. On Tuesday, Dec. 14th, classroom totals will be calculated and the Prize Winners will be announced! Each week, teachers will tally up their classroom’s donated item points, and provide the weekly point total to the office.
At the end of the competition, the classroom with the highest donation points will win the
Grand Prize of a Skate City field trip during the school day on January 11th! 1st Runner-up classroom winner will receive a pizza party!
So…send those donations in with your students! We graciously thank you in advance for your help during our season of giving!
