The Coming of Advent
We have started the journey to Bethlehem. Each day, during Morning Prayer, we are hearing a part of the story of the Holy family's journey to Bethlehem. Joseph leads a donkey carrying Mary, who is pregnant with Jesus, for close to 90 miles. The journey probably took about a week or so and would have been grueling. Our Advent journey will take roughly 4 weeks and doesn't involve donkeys or grueling walks. The journey of Advent to Christmas morning will help the children understand and know that this time is a time to prepare our hearts. Even our littlest ones can prepare their hearts for Jesus. One step in preparing our hearts is going to Reconciliation. Children in grades three through eight will go to confession starting next week. Our hope is that they can take one more step in deepening their love of Jesus by experiencing his divine mercy and becoming the saint that God made them to be.
Special Request
We are looking to beautify the inside of the school this Advent. If anyone has an extra Nativity, we would be grateful to have one and display it here. The Nativity is such a beautiful way to experience Advent and Christmas. Here is what Pope Francis wrote about the Nativity, "When, at Christmas, we place the statue of the Infant Jesus in the manger, the nativity scene suddenly comes alive. God appears as a child, for us to take into our arms. Beneath weakness and frailty, he conceals his power that creates and transforms all things."
