The Buzz
Autumn Term - 19th October 2023
Message from the Head of School
Dear Parents/Carers
It has been a 'hive' of excitement this week as all the children had the opportunity to brave the climbing wall. I am pleased to see so many of them face their fears and challenge themselves to reach 'new heights'. As always, their behaviour was outstanding and I am sure we have inspired many to look for local clubs that they could join. Thank you to Miss Stone who organised the climbing wall adventure - definitely enjoyed by all.
The whole school poetry competition is well underway with the final being held this Friday. Well done to everyone for taking part as this is a great opportunity to celebrate the joys of poetry and also develop skills in presenting to a group. Miss Miah has been pivotal in the organisation of this event which has had a wonderful impact across the school.
A reminder that Secondary School Applications need to be completed by Tuesday 31st October. Please ensure you apply on time and provide all the requested documentation to make sure the appropriate priority is applied to your application. National offer day is 1st March 2024.
The key dates for 2024/25 are included in the Buzz this week and have also been uploaded onto the website for future reference.
A huge thank you to all the children who donated towards the Harvest Collection today. These will be collected shortly and taken to the Vineyard Food Bank and the Hygiene Bank.
Finally, this week a letter came home about parent consultations. These will be face to face and are a valuable part of the home school partnership. Please do sign up and we look forward to seeing you at these meetings.
I hope you and your family have a lovely half term break.
Mr Jon James

HJS Sporting Achievement
Sophie B from class 6B was lucky enough to be invited to be the team escort in the men's international football match at Wembley on Friday 13th October between England and Australia. She walked out with the teams for the national anthems before watching the match with her family.
HJS Rugby Tournament - 18th October 2023
On Wednesday 18 October, 12 athletes participated in the Borough Rugby Tournament at Richmond Rugby Club.
We won 1 match, drew 1 and lost 1 in the round robin stage, which meant we progressed to the Cup round robin tournament. We drew 2 and lost 1 match - losing to the eventual winners, Heathfield. Coach Gabi and Mrs Fraser were very proud of how the team played in the short amount of practice time they had, and the great sportsmanship shown.
Well done to Seb, Mayra, Jack, Lucas, Tomi, Austin, Toby, Francis, Daisy, Mollie, Lila, and Ali for taking part in this tournament and of course to Mrs Fraser and Gabi for taking the children to the tournament.
Year 3 News
Last week, year 3 were lucky enough to use a history box from Chertsey Museum, linked to their Stone Age to Iron Age topic. It was full of exciting artefacts, photos and information and the children loved exploring these!
Year 6 News
6GB really pushed themselves last Friday with their fitness by completing their circuits. Mrs Gale was impressed with their squats, burpees, planks and shuttle runs! Well done all!
6C really enjoyed the climbing wall and challenging themselves.
6L conquered the climbing wall first thing on Tuesday morning.
6GB really enjoyed their time on the climbing wall this week! Well done as many conquered their fears of heights!
Scholastic Book Fair
The dates will be: Wednesday 1st November, Thursday 2nd November and Friday 3rd November in the Rose Hall, after school between 3:20pm and 4:00pm.
As part of this, we have been given 5 x £5 book vouchers to give away. We are launching a "Design a Bookmark" competition in order to decide who to award these vouchers to. There will be one winner for each year group plus one bonus winner (this could be from any year group!)
If you would like to receive a £5 book voucher to spend at the book fair in school, you can enter the competition by doing the following:
- Design a bookmark the same size as the templates provided
- Use colour pencils or colour pens
- Create an eye-catching design
- Show a passion for reading- they could represent a certain author, book, genre or present a reading-related quote
Here are some examples, as well as a bookmark template to use.
Entries must be given to your class teacher no later than Monday 30th October. The decision will be made by SLT on this date. The winners will be announced during our whole school assembly on Wednesday 1st November. Good luck!
REMINDER : Book Fair will be cashless. Payments will therefore need to be made by card.
