Upcoming Dates for December 2023
December 6 - TN Promise Meeting
Attention Seniors planning on participating in the TN Promise program! The MANDATORY TN promise meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, December 6th, at 5pm in Grand Topper Hall. This meeting will last approximately one hour and parents are encouraged to attend. Students MUST attend this meeting to remain eligible for the program or receive an excuse from the TN Achieves program. Students should plan on arriving to this meeting 10-15 minutes early since it takes some time to get everyone in attendance signed in.
December 8 - Jostens Cap & Gown Order Deadline
The order deadline for Senior Cap and Gown and other graduation products is Friday, December 8. Students can scan the QR code on the TVs in the hallways or in the Main Office or click here to check out the special class of 2024 portal with online links. Order by the deadline to ensure on time delivery of your items and the best pricing available. If you order after that deadline the price will increase as the group discount pricing will no longer apply. Please contact the local Jostens office at 865-766-5661 with any questions!
December 9 - National ACT Date
All students who have already signed up for this testing date should check their emails for corresponding details on arrival time and needed materials.
December 11 - Testing/Asynchronous Day
On Monday, December 11th, only Algebra 2, Geometry, and Algebra 1 Honors students should report to campus in person to complete their End of Course Exams. All other students will have an asynchronous assignment online to complete.
Students who are reporting for testing should bring their charged Chromebooks, and their preferred calculator on Math days. Testing is expected to last the entire school day, and transit will be running as normal at dismissal.
December 20 - Half Day for Students/Last Day of the Semester
December 21 - January 3 - No School for Winter Break
Thursday, December 21 through Wednesday January 3, there will be no school for students. Please keep an eye out on the website for when the building will also be closed during this break period. We look forward to seeing everyone back on January 4 for the new year and new semester!

At Science Hill, we believe in providing opportunities to help enhance our student's experience and one of those outlets is through our wide variety of clubs, teams and organizations.

Tutoring
With the end of the first semester coming to an end, it's a great time for students to be on the lookout for morning and afternoon tutoring and boot camp sessions. Departments offering tutoring will post the available days and times on the TVs but we encourage students to reach out to their teachers now so they can take advantage of the sessions that are being offered!

Student and Parent Forms
All student and parent forms can be found in our Main Office in two main places: on a grid on the wall by the main entrance or on our counters.

PTA Forms - How to sign up and be informed with PTA events and news.
JCS Communication Tools - Information on how to stay connected with Johnson City Schools.
Gradebook Portal Request Form - To request access to PowerSchool parent account.
Community Service Hours Form - Log form for students' community service hours. Must be signed by a the volunteer supervisor.
Transit Request Forms - Must be filled out, approved, and on file before students can use the school bus system.
Medicine Administration Permission Form - Must be filled out and turned into the nurse if students have medicine that needs to be taken during the school day.
Parent Observer Request Form - To request access to Canvas parent account.

Lunch Form - For more information about our lunch program. There is a QR code that will direct on how to fill out forms regarding free and reduced lunch.
School Map - For a layout of the school so that students are able to locate their classes.
Drop-Off/Pick Up Map - For car drop off and pick up locations.

Upcoming Deadlines
TN Governor's School
If your student is interested in filling out an application to any of the TN Governor's Schools next year, they need to schedule a meeting with their counselor BEFORE DECEMBER 20. This will ensure all application materials are completed by each schools' deadlines.

Scholarships/Early Decisions for Colleges
Reminder to check any potential scholarships that might have an upcoming deadline and any early decision deadlines as this is a common time for those applications to be due.
Any December Graduates?
If your student is planning on graduating in December, ensure they have fully completed all graduation requirements such as:
- Paying the $10 Senior Fee
- Requesting Final Transcripts
- Completing and Turning in forms for 30 Hours of Community Service
- Have taken the ACT and the Civics Exam
- Checked their Obligations (the list can be found outside of the Registrar's Office)

Class Bloomz
Bloomz is the texting app used by SHHS to text information such as scholarships, deadlines, meetings, and other pertinent information. To sign up for this service, simply download the Bloomz app on your phone and create an account. Then join the appropriate class using the course codes listed below.
