Dr. Ronald E. McNair ES Parent News
July 7, 2023
Dear Families,
I hope you are enjoying the summer! The month of July is the official start of the calendar year for the 2023–2024 school year.
Welcome to the 2023–2024 school year at Dr. Ronald E. McNair ES.
This newsletter is a shortened version of information that will be sent out in August. It is to share some brief updates about our school and to provide you with some resources that you may find helpful. The August newsletter will be a more in-depth newsletter.
In the body of this newsletter is information about Montgomery County Public Library's annual summer reading program. Students are encouraged to participate, but most importantly, read for at least 20 minutes each day. Additionally, there are resources available for students to practice their math skills.
While enjoying the summer is important, we know there are many back-to-school sales. We have included the Dr. Ronald E. McNair ES School Supply List for the upcoming school year. It is important that every child has the necessary tools for success. If purchasing these items is difficult for your family, please reach out to the school.
Upcoming Events: We have a few upcoming events that you may be interested in. On July 20, we will be hosting a Popsicles at the Park with the Principals event. This event is a chance to stop by for a quick break of a cool treat during the summer heat. Please see the flyer below. There is one more Kindergarten Playdate this summer. This is where kindergarten families are encouraged to stop by Leaman Park on August 19 to play with new friends for a few minutes before heading over to Northwest High School. Also, mark your calendar for the Northwest Cluster Back-to-School Resource Fair on Saturday, August 19 from 10:00 am - 1:00 pm.
As we monitor our enrollment, we continue to need your help. Please encourage any new families or parents with young children to stop by the Dr. REMES Main Office at Germantown Elementary to register their student. The sooner families register, the more likely it is that we will not have any oversized classes. So don't be shy! Meet that new neighbor and send them over to the school. We truly appreciate it!
Thank you for your continued support of our school. We look forward to seeing you in the fall!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Sherilyn Moses, Principal
&
Mrs. Jessica Graber, Principal Intern
The Upcoming School Year
We welcome Mrs. Jessica Bay Graber, as our principal intern for the upcoming school year. The letter sent home with this information can be found here.
We are projected to have the following sections of classes for 2023-2024:
- 1 full day Prekindergarten,
- 4 Kindergarten,
- 4 Grade 1,
- 5 Grade 2,
- 5 Grade 3,
- 5 Grade 4, and
- 5 Grade 5 classes.
We will be closely monitoring our enrollment throughout the summer to determine if any changes need to be made to our classroom sections. Please keep in mind that staffing is also based on our student enrollment. Therefore, there could be possible changes made to this as well.

PREPARING FOR THE 2023-24 SCHOOL YEAR
Medication/Treatment Orders from your Health Care Provider
The medication/treatment authorization form(s) specific to your child's health/medication needs must be renewed at the beginning of each school year.
Maryland regulation dictates that we determine expiration dates as follows: (1) one year from the dispensing date on the pharmacy label or (2) the expiration date on the medication package, whichever comes first.
To ensure your child's medication/treatment needs are met at the start of the school year, please submit medications/supplies with completed forms to the health room on or after Friday, August 25, 2023. Please contact the health room in advance to ensure the availability of School Health staff. Please be sure to include the appropriate medication forms, MCPS 525-13 (for oral medications, creams, or inhalers) or MCPS 525-14 (for epinephrine auto injectors for the treatment of anaphylaxis).
School health staff will review physician orders/medications. It is the parent's or guardian's responsibility to ensure that medications/orders are compliant with state regulation. Please do not send your child to school with medications. Per MCPS regulations, it is the parent's or guardian's responsibility to deliver physician orders/medications directly to School Health staff.
Thank you for your cooperation!
