NCEE Systems Design Benchmarking
Facilitators from NCEE lead IASD team members through an analysis of their system’s structures, processes, incentives, and supports to determine what systemic changes will generate improved student outcomes. Throughout the engagement, teams benchmark their LEA against the policies and practices associated with the highest-performing education jurisdictions in the world to consider how their own system could be redesigned to accelerate excellence and efficiency.
By the end of the SDB experience, our team will have completed an analysis of their current system through the lens of excellence and efficiency based on the policies and practices associated with the highest-performing education systems in the world. Our team will be ready to prioritize system structures, processes, incentives, and supports we need to redesign to improve their students’ readiness for college, career, and life throughout the Pre-K-12 experience.

Ben Franklin Earns Special Recognition
Invited guests also had the opportunity to tour the school’s new Outdoor Learning Space and visit indoor classrooms to experience what a PATHS lesson looks, feels, and sounds like. “PATHS” is an intervention program that aims to improve young children’s emotional competence, promote self-control, and reduce problem behaviors. The process through which young people and adults acquire and apply the knowledge, skills, and attitudes to develop healthy identities, manage emotions, and achieve goals is a vital part of preparing students to be college and/or career ready. Congratulations to all!
Unity Day at IASD
IASD participated in Unity Day on October 17th. Unity Day, the signature event of National Bullying Prevention Month, has been recognized in the United States since 2011. On this day, individuals, schools, communities, and businesses wore orange to unite for kindness, acceptance, and inclusion to prevent students from being bullied. Our students did an amazing job painting rocks on this day filled with positive messages to support one another. Special thanks to all those involved in the planning of this event.
Wear BLUE on November 17th as PART of Children's Grief Awareness Day
IASD is partnering up with Hopeful Hearts of Indiana to ask families to consider wearing BLUE on November 17th as part of Children's Grief Awareness Day. Created in 2008 by the Highmark Caring Place, A Center for Grieving Children, Adolescents and Their Families, and since recognized by organizations around the world, Children's Grief Awareness Day is observed every year on the third Thursday in November (the Thursday before the U.S. holiday of Thanksgiving). This time of year is a particularly appropriate time to support grieving children because the holiday season is often an especially difficult time.
Children's Grief Awareness Day seeks to bring attention to the fact that often support can make all the difference in the life of a grieving child. It provides an opportunity for all of us to raise awareness of the painful impact that the death of a loved one has in the life of a child, an opportunity to make sure that these children receive the support they need.
