Practicing Gratitude
Let's teach our children the value of recognizing the very special places, people, and things that they are surrounded by. Gratitude is a way of life. It can be life changing and life enhancing. Mayo Clinic has a quick article highlighting the importance of this mindset.
Can Expressing Gratitude Improve Your Mental, Physical Health?
I'm also including some video links to some popular children's books about gratitude. Please watch with your child as these are YouTube links. Maybe they can create a gratitude list after they watch.
Kindergarten

What's Happening in Special Areas (Art, Music, PE, Library) in November?
Kindergarten
- Art: Coming Soon
- Music: Recognize and perform the steady beat to a variety of songs on instruments.
- PE: Students will be learning basketball dribbling basics. Students will also be learning striking with body parts
- Library: STEM activities to pair with The Great Turkey Escape, counselor guidance, parts of a book lesson, book care
First Grade
- Art: Coming Soon
- Music: Write and perform rhythmic patterns, including quarter notes, eighth notes and quarter rests. Identify steps and skips on the staff.
- PE: Students will be learning basketball dribbling basics. Students will also be learning striking with body parts
- Library: Searching the OPAC, good fit books, continue with library organization and book care
Second Grade
- Art: Coming Soon
- Music: Write and perform rhythmic patterns, including quarter notes and eighth notes. Identify steps and skips on the staff.
- PE: Students will be learning the basketball basics of dribbling, passing and shooting skills
- Library: Searching the OPAC, good fit books, continue with library organization and book care
Third Grade
- Art: Coming Soon
- Music: Read and perform and decode melodic patterns, using the penatonic scale.
- PE: Students will be learning the basketball basics of dribbling,passing and shooting skills
- Library: Reading Leave it to Plum one of this year's Bluebonnet books, text feature to support classroom learning.
Fourth Grade
- Art: Coming Soon
- Music: Read and write, and perform pentatonic melodies, and rhythmic patterns, including sixteenth notes. Begin describing new rhythmic patterns.
- PE: Students will be learning the basketball basics of dribbling, passing and shooting skills and using the skills in dynamic situations
- Library: Text features to review from last year, library scavenger hunt, digital citizenship
Fifth Grade
- Art: Coming Soon
- Music: Read and write, and perform pentatonic melodies, and rhythmic patterns, including sixteenth notes. Begin describing new rhythmic patterns.
- PE: Students will be learning the basketball basics of dribbling, passing and shooting skills and using the skills in dynamic situations
- Library: Research on Fiber Art, creating and art gallery with the Art teacher to support research and the book Unbound.
