As part of the state’s annual budget process, Senator Patrick Diegnan, Assemblyman Rob Karabinchak and Assemblyman Sterley Stanley helped secure $8.5 million in funding for Middlesex County’s Destination Athletic Complex. The complex will include 14 multisport synthetic turf fields, 16 tennis courts, a state-of-the-art recreational cricket pitch, a running track and much more. Read more

Senator Patrick Diegnan's legislation enhancing the ability of persons on the autism spectrum and with intellectual and developmental disabilities to travel independently, which also makes safe transportation more accessible for all state residents, is headed to Governor Phil Murphy’s desk. A newly renovated running track and multi-purpose synthetic turf field are already benefiting student-athletes in Highland Park, where the high school’s varsity cross country and soccer teams enjoyed success during the fall scholastic sports season. The borough’s recreation complex, located behind the middle school and high school, reopened at the start of this academic year after undergoing nearly $2 million in renovations. Read more

Military service accompanies frequent reassignments, which prevents members from changing their legal residencies. This law will ease the transition for military service members entering New Jersey and their families by eliminating the need to obtain New Jersey driver’s licenses. The law will serve as a warm welcome to members of the Armed Forces from our state. Read more

As a provider of affordable housing, support services, and meaningful community connections to low-income individuals and families, the Reformed Church of Highland Park Affordable Housing Corporation has made a profound impact. The nonprofit’s footprint will soon expand with the New Jersey Department of Community Affairs awarding $1 million from the National Housing Trust Fund for the creation of four rental units through the acquisition and rehabilitation of a property on North 4th Avenue in Highland Park. A ribbon-cutting ceremony celebrating the reopening of the newly renovated Joseph A. Mondoro Auditorium, which has been transformed into a state-of-the-art facility, was held at South Plainfield High School. The event culminated months of planning and skilled craftsmanship, resulting in the installation of a new sound system, curtain, video screen, carpeting, flooring, cushioned seats, lighting, and renovations to the stage, all fittingly dressed in the school’s official colors. Governor Phil Murphy last week signed into law Assemblyman Rob Karabinchak's legislation, which Senator Diegnan sponsored in the upper house and the full state legislature unanimously approved. The legislation is designed to expedite the construction permitting process. Read more.

Gayle Brill Mittler, who recently resigned as mayor of Highland Park to spend more time with family, profoundly impacted countless lives during her tenure. Her legacy includes creating a sustainable infrastructure in town, taking multiple steps towards property tax stabilization, actively advancing downtown redevelopment, enhancing the quality of life of borough residents, and reorganizing the police department, fire department, and first aid squads.
