STAAR May 9th INFORMATION
On Tuesday, May 9th, 2023 we will open the campus at 7:30am. We are asking our 3rd - 5th grade parents to please have your scholar at school as early as possible. This will help us ensure everyone is in the right location and is able to eat breakfast.
The campus is closed to visitors, food deliveries, and early pick-up while we are STAAR testing. Please ensure that you send your scholar to school with their lunch.
CHROMEBOOK COLLECTION
All 3rd - 5th Grade Scholars will be turning in their chrome books and chargers on Monday. We will return them on Wednesday.
DRESS CODE (3rd - 5th Testing scholars ONLY)
Scholars who are testing may dress comfortable. Slippers are NOT permitted but crocs or slides will be allowable. All comfortable clothing will still need to be school appropriate.

CELL PHONES
With testing being on the computer the state has implemented stricter rules with cell phones and telecommunication devices. I am HIGHLY recommending you keep your scholars cell phone at home. We will be collecting all staff and scholar cell phones at the beginning of testing and returning them at the end of the school day. We also are required to collect smart watches, and any device that is considered a telecommunication device.

Message from Dr. Xavier Lewis
Disciplinary action will be taken for any inappropriate email that is sent using the school email account. We use Goguardian during the instructional day to monitor and restrict what scholars are on during the school day.
I want to ensure all parents remember the expectation to be apart of the Collegiate Pathway. Scholars should not have behavioral issues, have at least a 98% attendance rate, and work towards ensuring all grades are 85% or higher. As a reminder I am providing our process for being placed on probation from the student code of conduct.
Probation process - Collegiate Prep Elementary
1. A Collegiate Student Review Meeting is held. The Review Committee will include a
building administrator, classroom teacher, and the school counselor/magnet advisor
when appropriate. Parents will be notified in writing about the meeting and will serve
as a member of the committee.
2. The Review Committee will develop an individual probationary plan that addresses the
identified area(s) in which the student did not meet Collegiate expectations. The
purpose of the plan is to assist the student in making improvements in the identified
area(s) and for overall student success in the program. If a student is identified for Tier
2 or Tier 3 intervention support, the committee will consider the RtI plan established by
the intervention team.
3. At the end of each grading cycle, the Review Committee will evaluate the student’s
progress and determine whether to remove the student’s probationary status, extend
the probation, or exit the student from the program.

Mrs. Tyler-Johnson
Summer is near and we want to provide you suggestions on ways to prevent the summer slide. We can help kids avoid the summer slide by providing quick reading and math tasks that easily integrate into their day. Studies suggest we can prevent summer learning loss by engaging kids in summertime reading, math games, and hands-on STEM activities.
9 ways to help stop the summer slide
1. Introduce a summer reading program
2. Bring math into the real world
4. Get children outside in the garden
5. Visit an educational place that isn’t the classroom
6. Get the equipment ready and start baking
7. Put the tools away and do some DIY
Message from the Library
As the school year draws to a close, we will be collecting any and all library books. Grades PK-1st leave their books in their classroom so this should be a fairly easy collection. For grades 2-5, this means checking all the spaces at home for any books that have a white sticker on the spine label. There should also be a barcode on the back or front of the book, but since our library is comprised of books from multiple campuses, they may say West Intermediate, Joe Wilson Intermediate, Collegiate Prep, etc. If you aren't sure if they are library books, please send them with your scholar or drop them off at the office. If they belong to another library, I will get them where they need to be. If the books have black marks on the spine label, these were weeded books and do not need to be returned. If you have any questions, please reach out.
The library’s last day to check out books for scholars will be this Thursday, May 4th during library time. All books must be returned to the library by May 12th at the latest. I will be passing out overdue notices in all classes to remind students which books they owe and how much the fine is if they cannot find the books. All fines must be paid through My Payments Plus after you have notified Mrs. Salgado that you cannot find the books and the we set up the fine. Students will not be allowed to attend the awards ceremony on May 22nd if they have a fine, including a library book fine. Please reach out to Allison Salgado via email at Allison.Salgado@chisd.net if you have any questions or concerns. Thank you for your help in returning these library books and keeping our library running smoothly.Dr. Xavier Lewis
