Spartan Message
Greetings Families,
It's amazing that we have already completed week 11 of our 36 week school year! We are a quarter of the way through our year. Quarter one (T1) grades were posted on November 7th. Our semester grades (ending Jan. 24th) are calculated on a cumulative basis (that means the S1 grade has been calculated from the beginning of the year to the end of the semester rather than averaging the two quarter grades). Even so, the quarter grade provides you and your student with a snapshot of their current academic status in each of their classes. We have found that students and families who regularly review student progress in Skyward Family and Student Access often attend to any low grades early and end up completing the term passing everything. To check on your student's attendance, behavior and grades, log into Skyward Family Access. If you do not know your Skyward username and/or password, please call the school main office (509)766.2662 for assistance or look at the directions page later in this newsletter. If you or your student have any questions or concerns about course grades, the first place to go is to your student's teacher. Hopefully you had the opportunity to meet with your student’s teacher during conference week. If not, we encourage your student to reach out to his or her teacher and if low grades remain, and we encourage you, as a parent, to also reach out to the teacher. Teacher email contact information is found on the Staff Directory on our website. If you hover over the name of the teacher on skyward, you will also be able to see the teacher's email address.
We also have some fun events planned for this month! We will be decorating cookies, our band will have their holiday concert, and we even a Spirit Month leading up to Winter Break! It's always wonderful to see our students participating in our programs and enjoying themselves at school.
I am wishing you and your family a happy holiday season!

What have we been up to lately?
Our Newest Spartan!
AVID Field Trip
7th and 8th Grade AVID classes were able to tour Eastern Washington University and Carrington last month. They learned lots about the opportunities they will have available post high school.
0.5k Turkey Trot
Students joined us after school to run a 0.5k and then celebrated their accomplishment by eating fruit (in pie form!) and made lots of fun crafts.
AVID Tutorials
7th grade AVID started learning the process for Tutorials. They follow a process based on questioning, processing, and persevering. It's not easy to participate in this process and to be vulnerable in front of their peers, but these students are willing to so they can improve their learning and understanding of concepts from their classes.
Team Apollo Party!
The Apollo Pod won our Quarter 1 Tardy Challenge and celebrated with pizza, Christmas Karaoke, and dancing! These students in were on-time to class 93% of the time. This is an amazing accomplishment especially since they have classes all over our building! Mrs. Grant, Mrs. Swanson, and all of us at Frontier are very proud of our 6th graders.
Fun with Math
Mrs. Peter's class worked on finding the area and circumference of circles by actually measuring real circles! We love how Mrs. Peter's is always so creative when it comes to teaching math content to her students.
