October 2nd, 2023 is the Official Student Count Day in the State of Colorado
Attendance data will be collected and submitted to the Colorado Department of Education to determine funding eligibility for our school. State funding is based on the number of students enrolled and in attendance on Monday, October 2nd, so it is essential for students to be in class. We kindly ask parents to reschedule any existing appointments. If you cannot reschedule an appointment, or if your child is sick, call the attendance line at 303-387-2002 to report the absence. Be sure to leave an expected return date. We appreciate your support and attention regarding this important matter.
Attendance Matters - Classroom attendance is imperative to student success and achievement. There are federal laws about attending school as well as district policy. Here is a link to the District website with important information regarding attendance policies.

Neil Simon's The Odd Couple (Female Version)
September 27--30
Tickets are on sale at SeatYourself
Students: $10.00 / Adults: $12.00 / Military or Senior: $11.00
Neil Simon’s revision of his hugely successful play, The Odd Couple, sees the lead characters transformed into Olive Madison and Florence Unger. Olive and her group of girlfriends are enjoying their weekly Trivial Pursuit night in Olive’s messy and ill-equipped apartment. As the game continues, Florence arrives, fresh from being dumped by her husband. Fearful that the neurotic Florence might attempt suicide, Olive invites her to move in as her roommate. However, Olive and Florence have VERY different personalities. Where Olive is messy, untidy, and unconcerned about the state of her apartment, Florence is obsessively clean, tidy, and obsessed with hygiene. Olive’s easy-going outlook on life soon clashes with Florence’s highly-strung neurotic tendencies, testing their friendship to the limit. When Olive organizes a double date with the Costazuela brothers, their differences come to a head and sparks fly.

IB Update
The IB CAS (Creativity, Activity, and Service) Trip is official and we are going to Denmark. After some complications with other locations, the group has settled on traveling to Copenhagen for Spring Break 2024. This trip is going to be focused on the ideas of sustainability, a topic that Copenhagen and Denmark are uniquely suited to show off. Students will learn about sustainable farming techniques, renewable energy, sustainable fashion practices, local food sourcing/cooking, and a lot more. We are very excited to offer this opportunity for the IB students and hope to see a lot of the kids sign up.
For those who are not familiar with the CAS Trips model, these trips are for our IB students in their junior and senior years. Every year we look to offer a trip somewhere in the world to help them engage in the Creative, Active, and Service learning emphasized in the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme. If you ever want to learn more about the CAS Trip opportunities please feel free to look at their website HERE or reach out to Mr. Risner at kwrisner@dcsdk12.org. If your student is an IB student in their junior or senior year you can also sign up for the trip using this QR code.

MLO/Bond
The DCSD Board of Education voted unanimously to place a $66M Mill Levy Override and $484M Bond on the November 2023 ballot. All seven Board directors expressed their strong support and personal dedication to our students and our staff.
The Board also unanimously adopted a compensation resolution that will automatically trigger if the MLO passes. For school district staff, this means pay increases would happen automatically should the MLO pass (with increases being paid retroactively back to July 1).
To learn more about how additional funding would benefit our schools and our staff, visit www.dcsdk12.org/funding. We also encourage you to read through the MLO/Bond plan.
