ThunderRidge Weekly Update
September 22 , 2023
Patterson's Perspective
Grizzly Families,
GRADES
We are finishing up our 7th week of school and only have a few weeks left until the first quarter is over. Please make sure you are staying updated on your students' grades and having conversations with them if there are any concerns. Encourage your students to speak with their teachers and utilize the support systems we have in place here at the school. These include Access, Advisement and tutoring programs.
Parent teacher conferences will be held on October 12th from 4:00-6:30pm. This is a great opportunity to talk with teachers in person and get feedback on how your student is doing.
STUDENT COUNT (ENROLLMENT)
The student count window begins next Monday, September 25th and runs through Monday, October 9th, with the official count day on Monday, October 2nd. Funding for our school is determined by attendance during this period, and it is imperative that students attend school to ensure we get an accurate count.
VAPE DETECTORS
The District has provided all the high schools with vape detectors. We are hoping this will be a deterrent for vaping and smoking and students will make good healthy choices. If there is a detection of vaping, we will go through the school process for any individual involved.
Please let me know if you have any questions.
Have a great weekend.

Neil Simon's The Odd Couple (Female Version)
September 27--30
Tickets are on sale at SeatYourself
Students: $10.00 / Adults: $12.00 / Military or Senior: $11.00
Neil Simon’s revision of his hugely successful play, The Odd Couple, sees the lead characters transformed into Olive Madison and Florence Unger. Olive and her group of girlfriends are enjoying their weekly Trivial Pursuit night in Olive’s messy and ill-equipped apartment. As the game continues, Florence arrives, fresh from being dumped by her husband. Fearful that the neurotic Florence might attempt suicide, Olive invites her to move in as her roommate. However, Olive and Florence have VERY different personalities. Where Olive is messy, untidy, and unconcerned about the state of her apartment, Florence is obsessively clean, tidy, and obsessed with hygiene. Olive’s easy-going outlook on life soon clashes with Florence’s highly-strung neurotic tendencies, testing their friendship to the limit. When Olive organizes a double date with the Costazuela brothers, their differences come to a head and sparks fly.

October 2nd, 2023 is the Official Student Count Day in the State of Colorado
Attendance data will be collected and submitted to the Colorado Department of Education to determine funding eligibility for our school. State funding is based on the number of students enrolled and in attendance on Monday, October 2nd, so it is essential for students to be in class. We kindly ask parents to reschedule any existing appointments. If you cannot reschedule an appointment or if your child is sick, call the attendance line at 303-387-2002 to report the absence. Be sure to leave an expected return date. We appreciate your support and attention regarding this important matter.
Attendance Matters - Classroom attendance is imperative to student success and achievement. There are federal laws about attending school as well as district policy. Here is a link to the District website with important information regarding attendance policies.

Attention all AP and IB Students/Parents,
Exam registration for year-long classes for the 23/24 school year is right around the corner.
Any student NOT interested in taking the exam must communicate this to Ms. Kovack (kkovack@dcsdk12.org) for AP exams or Mrs. Lakeland (trhsib11@dcsdk12.org) for IB exams by Wednesday, November 1st.
If you decide not to test after this deadline, the school is still charged a fee and no refund will be available.
IB Update
As the year is in full swing, student's workload and responsibilities are piling up and many of our kids are feeling the stress. With that being said, we here in the IB world thought this would be a good time to talk about time management.
One of the most important skills anyone can have to be more successful is a better understanding of time management. The ability to manage ones time is generally overlooked, but a well managed individual can reduce stress, increase productivity and so much more. The number one most important skill for successful IB students is to have a firm grasp on their time management. That may look different for each individual, but I did want to share some tips to help manage time better HERE.
Best of luck in your time management this semester!!

Juniors
Now that the juniors know all about their personality, and how it can translate to a career, time to see if those skills pay the bills. As juniors continue to explore the world of work, they look at what skills they have, and how they align with a career.

MLO/Bond
The DCSD Board of Education voted unanimously to place a $66M Mill Levy Override and $484M Bond on the November 2023 ballot. All seven Board directors expressed their strong support and personal dedication to our students and our staff.
The Board also unanimously adopted a compensation resolution that will automatically trigger if the MLO passes. For school district staff, this means pay increases would happen automatically should the MLO pass (with increases being paid retroactively back to July 1).
To learn more about how additional funding would benefit our schools and our staff, visit www.dcsdk12.org/funding. We also encourage you to read through the MLO/Bond plan.
