PTO Sponsored Fun Run
Our 2023 Safari themed Fun Run was a HUGE success! THANK YOU to all of our PTO members and volunteers for making this event happen. Our students had a great time participating in the fun run, obstacles, cheering on their peers, and weekly competitions! Way to go Team Disney!
In addition, we would like to thank all the students and families for their support in this year's Fun Run fundraising event. The donations continue to roll in and our new amount is $24,173 raised! This has surpassed our school goal and we look forward to our Mega Recess reward! Thank you very much for your continued support to our Disney community!

Student-Led Conferences are around the corner
We are looking forward to having our teachers meet with you and your child during Disney's Student-Led Conferences. During this time, students will showcase their goals and academic progress. It is important to include your child in these conferences so that they can take ownership of their academic plan for the year. Conference dates and times are as follows:
Wednesday, October 25th from 4:30 to 7:30 PM
Thursday, October 26th from 1:00-3:30 PM & 4:30-7:30 PM
Each classroom teacher will be sending home classroom and/or grade-level specific conference information via email as well as a link to sign up for a conference time. If you have multiple children at Disney, you will receive an email from EACH teacher and will need to review information from them to ensure multiple conferences are scheduled. This process is very easy, and only takes a few minutes to sign-up for a conference time for each student. Links will also be included in next week’s edition of Behind the Magic.
We look forward to seeing everyone at conferences. Should you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us.
Halloween Around Disney
Classroom Activities: Classrooms/grade levels may be planning for Halloween activities and celebrations individually, either before or after the parade. If teachers request parent volunteers to help facilitate the classroom activities, all volunteers will have to submit a Background Check at least 48 hours prior to volunteering.
Costumes: Students may come to school in costume on Tuesday, October 31st. They can stay in costume for the duration of the day. Costumes need to be school appropriate and cannot depict violence or excess blood/gore. No fake weapons are allowed in school (i.e. toy guns, swords, blades, etc). No blow-up costumes. Costume masks can be worn for the parade only, but not throughout the day. For costumes that have short skirts/shorts, leggings or pants need to be worn underneath.

Get ready! The Scholastic Book Fair is coming our way (YAY!). Choosing their own books empowers kids and inspires them on their journey to becoming lifelong readers. AND—as always—every purchase at the Fair benefits our school.
Here’s what you need to know about the big event, which will take place:
October 23rd-27th
Walt Disney Media Center
Open Late on October 25th during conferences
Say goodbye to cash and hello to eWallet—your child’s digital payment account. Before the Fair, set up eWallet for worry-free, cash-free purchases. Anyone can contribute! Share each child’s eWallet so friends and family can add funds and give your kids more books to enjoy.
If you can’t make it to the Fair, then shop at our school’s Book Fair online. All orders ship directly to your home, and shipping is free for book orders over $25. Every online purchase will also benefit our school.

Sixth Grade Recess Games
Last week, our 6th graders worked together by reading articles about different recess games and the rules that align with the games. In their small groups, they aligned what they felt was the most important information to design a poster related to their article and their prior experiences. After designing their posters, we discussed each game and its rules as a class and as a grade level to develop common language and expectations. Students have revisited the posters this week to add on or adapt as we applied our new shared learning to recess play. We are proud of their effort to work together and hold each other accountable.
Learning Centers In Kindergarten
Kindergarten learning centers are in full swing as we enter our 7th week of school. Centers are activities that take place in six specific areas within our classrooms. Students complete three center rotations each day. During center time, students work together within small groups to practice various concepts and skills that they have learned. This allows students time to exercise their knowledge, while engaging in hands-on games and activities with their peers. This portion of our day is essential, as it allows students to not only practice academic skills, but also improve upon their social-emotional and self-regulation skills. Centers are a kindergarten “fan-favorite” because they are engaging, fun, and allow students to feel successful in the classroom.
Attendance Matters!
This year, we're working hard to advance student success by reducing chronic absenteeism. At the end of each month, our team will be reviewing student attendance and will be setting up meetings with families whose students have missed 10% of our school days. During these meetings, we will be creating success plans in an effort to help improve student attendance.
Students who miss 2 days of school in September often go on to become chronically absent. To maintain satisfactory attendance and to create good attendance habits that can last a lifetime, students should strive to miss no more than 9 days per year (or less than 1 day per month).
Parking Lot Reminders
* Please remember to park in a parking spot when walking your child up to their line.
*Please pull all the way forward when utilizing the drop-off and pick-up lines. This will help us unload and load cars more efficiently.
* The bus loops is for buses ONLY, please do not drop off or pick up students in the bus loop.
* Drugs, tobacco, and alcohol products are not allowed on school property.
* We love our pets, but for the safety and comfort of everyone, please refrain from brining them on school property.
Red Flag means Indoor Lineup
When the red flag is hung outside the front of the building, this means indoor line-up due to inclement weather. Our students can enter the building at 8:20!
Extra Clothes and Student Items
Students may have a variety of accidents throughout the school day that require a change of clothes. To help prevent a call home, please make sure to have an extra set of clothes (shirt, pants, underwear, socks) in your child’s backpack in case of an accident throughout the school day.
In addition, please label all your students belongings (hoodies, jackets, water bottles, lunch boxes, etc.); our lost and found is building up and if items are labeled we can return them to your student. Thank you!
Picture Retake Day
Destination Imagination
Destination Imagination is an educational program in which student teams, made up of 2-7 members, solve open-ended Challenges and present their solutions at fun, local Tournaments. Teams are tested to think on their feet, work together and devise original solutions that satisfy the requirements of the Challenges, and develop innovative thinking strategies. Participants gain more than just basic knowledge and skills, they learn to unleash their imaginations and take unique approaches to problem solving.
