FAFSA Deadlines You Need to Know
Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) will open December 1, 2024 for the 2025-2026 school year. The FAFSA should be completed every year you plan to attend college or career tech. States and colleges have their own deadlines. Visit: Studentaid.gov/fafsa for more information.
Beginning with the 2024-2025 school year, students must complete and submit a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) in order to graduate from a public high school.*
Opt-out option: If you would prefer not to complete the FAFSA, you must submit a completed Opt-Out form, which can be found on the district website at FAFSA Resources or in the counselor’s office. You can also visit the website for helpful guides for navigating the FAFSA process, answers to frequently asked questions, and a quick guide to completing the FAFSA in 5 simple steps.
Scholarship Opportunities for American Indian Students
Native Forward Scholarship Fund (Multiple Scholarships)
Native Forward is the largest and oldest Native scholarship provider in the country. Currently, they have over twenty scholarship programs ranging from $250 to $30,000 per academic year.

The Gates Scholarship (TGS) is a highly selective, last-dollar scholarship for outstanding, minority, high school seniors from low-income households. Each year, the scholarship is awarded to exceptional student leaders, with the intent of helping them realize their maximum potential.
Deadline: September 15 (See additional dates.)
Cobell Scholarship (Multiple Scholarship Options)
Amount: Varies
Requirements: Both Merit-based and Need-based, the competitive Cobell Scholarship is annual, non-renewable, and available to any post-secondary (after high school) student who is; an enrolled member of a US Federally-Recognized Tribe, enrolled in full-time study and is degree-seeking. Applicants must plan to attend or be attending any nationally, regionally and industry accredited non-profit, public and private, institution.Applicants must be pursuing a vocational certificate or diploma, associate’s, bachelor’s, master’s, doctoral or professional degree, or certificate.

American Indian Science and Engineering Society (AISES) (Multiple Scholarship Listings)
AISES is the leading organization in Native American scholars in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics). Their scholarships are focused on helping Native students who are pursuing degrees in any of these fields.

Daughters of American Revolution
The National Society Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) is pleased to offer 26 different national scholarships for graduating high school seniors, and college, graduate and medical students through the online application portal for the upcoming academic year. Each scholarship opportunity has its own individual criteria and may require specific documents to be uploaded into your application.

American Indian College Fund Scholarships- Full Circle Scholarship
Amount: Varies
Requirements: The American Indian College Fund provides scholarships to American Indian and Alaska Native college students seeking undergraduate and graduate degrees at tribal colleges, nonprofit, and accredited schools.
Deadline: May 31, 2025
Indian Health Services Scholarship
The Indian Health Service (IHS) offers three scholarships for American Indian and Alaska Native students in order to educate and train health professionals to staff Indian health programs. The goal is to develop our next generation of leaders, as well as help make the pursuit of a meaningful career in Indian health attainable for American Indian and Alaska Native students.
Deadline: February 28, 2025
Native American Fish and Wildlife Society Scholarship
Native American Fish and Wildlife Society goal is to help Native American/Alaskan Native students pursue their career and educational goals in the field of natural resources, by providing financial assistance.

Oklahoma's premier tribal college, has degree programs that meet the unique needs of students and will serve as a foundation to a bachelor's degree.
Haskell Indian Nations University (HINU)
Located in Lawrence, KS, HINU is the premiere tribal university in the United States, offering quality education to Native American students. Haskell offers Associate and Bachelors degrees.

American Indian Science and Engineering Society (AISES)
The American Indian Science and Engineering Society supports K-12, undergrad, and graduate students in STEM studies through programs, scholarships, and events. Pre-College students can join AISES for free. Membership benefits include:

The Gates Scholarship
The Gates Scholarship (TGS) is a highly selective, last-dollar scholarship for outstanding, minority, high school seniors from low-income households.
Basic Eligibility
To apply, students must be:
- A high school senior
- From at least one of the following ethnicities: African-American, American Indian/Alaska Native*, Asian & Pacific Islander American, and/or Hispanic American
- Pell-eligible
- A US citizen, national, or permanent resident
- In good academic standing with a minimum cumulative weighted GPA of 3.3 on a 4.0 scale (or equivalent)
Additionally, a student must plan to enroll full-time, in a four-year degree program, at a US accredited, not-for-profit, private or public college or university.
*For American Indian/Alaska Native, proof of tribal enrollment will be required.
