MES Soaring to Success
Principal weekly update
Good afternoon parents!
It was a much cooler week here at Mitchell and the highlight of the week was the ice cream social and unveiling of the new Ben's Bells mural! Thank you to all of you who came out and helped us kick of our year of Kindness with a great gathering and some great ice cream!! Special thanks to the PTO for sponsoring both the Ben's Bells and the ice cream social. If you have not seen the article that Maria Duncan put out it is linked here. MES Ice cream social. Also I am including some pictures but if you have any more feel free to send email them to me!
I wanted to take a moment and explain our new arrival procedure for rainy days. For the past it has rained quite hard during our morning arrival so we tried a new procedure that seemed to work well. I know the lines were a bit longer but we appreciate all of the parents/grandparents/guardians/friends/relatives that are dropping off and the patience they have shown. Cars will be directed down the back parking lot and through the walk that goes along the building to the doors we use when we have activities in the gym. Staff will be out to help unload students on both sides of cars with umbrellas! Cars then will proceed out of either driveway. If you go to the further one please make sure you stop and look for busses crossing. This will help keep our students dry and make for a more pleasant day!! Thank you for your cooperation with this!!
I wish you a great week!!

Did you know that sports drinks come in all shapes and sizes.
When sending in a drink other than water please be mindful of those that contain caffeine and are labeled for adults only.
Energy drinks are not recommended for children and teens because of the amount of caffeine, sugars and other ingredients (like herbs and amino acids) they contain. Caffeine is a drug naturally found in the leaves and seeds of many plants. It's also artificially made and added to certain foods.
For example below are two (2) Prime Drinks; the first is a hydration drink and the second is an energy drink.
Prime Hydration does not contain any caffeine. It is made up of mainly water and coconut water, with added electrolytes, B vitamins, vitamin A, vitamin E and artificial sweeteners.
Prime Energy drinks. The big difference between these two drinks is the high caffeine content in Prime Energy drinks with a whopping 140mg (in Canada)-200mg (In the US) per can. You would get the same amount of caffeine from drinking about 5 cans of Coke!
All we ask is that you be mindful of the type of sports/hydration drink you are sending in with your child.
