Fall is on the Way!
It has been a wonderful start to our school year so far. Thank you to all of the families who are making safety a priority during drop-off and pick-up time. The loading and unloading zones are moving more smoothly and we are seeing fewer U-turns in front of the school which helps keep everyone safe. Please continue to utilize caution any time you find yourself driving through a school zone.
This month we will begin our Fall Enrichment fundraiser. This is our biggest fundraiser of the school year which will help provide supplemental support to classrooms and the school as a whole. Flyers went home on Friday, September 1st and we also have the information listed below. School-wide we will earn incentives throughout the month as we hit each fundraising goal, which all students will benefit from. We appreciate any donation amount.
As we continue to settle into the school year I encourage you to create routines at home with your family as well. Routines can help maintain expectations and help children thrive in an environment. For example, children who have routines that help them settle down at the end of a long day tend to sleep better. The habit of showering, brushing their teeth, and reading a book quietly before bed signals to the brain that it is time to settle down and sleep. Eliminating blue light, electronics, and TV an hour before bedtime can also help children sleep better. Studies have shown that getting a good's night rest can help students stay on task and have longer attention spans therefore helping them to prosper in their studies. Hopefully, these tips can help you to set up routines that make your evening go smoothly.

September Hawk Character Trait: Responsibility
Our SEL enrichment lesson this month will focus on the character trait of responsibility. Students will be learning about responsible decision-making, being a problem solver, setting goals, and what leadership looks and sounds like. Our lessons will include engaging activities, mindful discussions, and opportunities to collaborate with peers to understand the differences between responsible and irresponsible choices. My hope is that your child will develop a better understanding of what responsibility looks like in school, at home, and in the community. Family Activity Ideas:
Here are some activities you can do as a family that promote a sense of responsibility and leadership for your child:
Start a Chore Chart: Make an incentivized chart of age-appropriate responsibilities your child can do to help out around the house. Use stickers and stamps, and draw in stars/happy faces upon completion of each item. At the end of the week, reward and praise your child for being responsible.
Encourage Goal Setting: Achieving goals keeps kids motivated to do and become more. Students who set goals and achieve them in the long run build self-confidence. This can be personal goals or academic goals such as: learning to tie their shoes, starting a new sport or learning to play music, reading chapter books, making new friends, or starting a clothing or food drive.
Team Building Activities: Teamwork helps students build communication skills as they collaborate and strategize. And, as student groups work together to conquer problems, student confidence grows. Also, ensure your child knows who is picking them up each day and has a designated meeting spot so they are confident about where to meet them. Tk-1st grade students will stay with their teacher until an adult has walked to the gate to meet them.
Please DO NOT encourage your child to wait at the park across the street. There is no adult supervision there. Instead, pick a spot in front of the school to meet your child. Any child who has not been picked up and is still on campus after 15 minutes will be brought into the office to call home.
In the front of the school, we have been able to add some enhanced safety features this school year, including a fence and retaining wall to help families stay safe as they walk up to our front gates. We also have new signage in our loading and unloading zone as well.
