NEWS & UPDATES FROM SM NORTH
KS Assessment Remote Testing
*Remote Only Juniors that have yet to take the KS Assessment Science test will test on May 11th at 8am in the Learning Commons.
*Remote Only Sophomores that have yet to take the KS Assessment ELA and Math tests will test on May 13th at 8am in the Learning Commons.
MacBook Collection
All MacBook’s and chargers for both In-Person and Remote learners, will be collected this year.
All Seniors, including Remote only students will turn in their MacBook’s on their last day of school which is May 19th. More details will be included in informational emails from Mr. Glaser in the coming weeks.
All In-Person 9th-11th graders will turn in their MacBook in the morning of May 27th.
All Remote 9th-11th graders will turn in their MacBook (and any other school items) through a drive through process on May 27th, from 2:00pm to 3:30pm.
Students enrolled in a SMSD summer school course can retain their MacBook until the summer school session is completed, but their enrollment must be confirmed by school personnel during MacBook collection in order to keep the device.

Purchase a Yearbook for 2020-21
Yearbook students are working on wrapping up this year’s yearbook for planned distribution in May. There are still about 60 books available on a first-come, first-served basis. To order yours, either take $65 in cash or check to the bookkeeper or pay online at www.yearbookforever.com .
The art department has big plans for the 21-22 school year! We’re looking at hosting a couple of big events (1 in the fall and 1 in the spring) that will help showcase the work of our amazing students and boost community involvement in our program! We are in search of some dedicated volunteers who can help us bring our plans to life! If you are looking for a satisfying and fulfilling volunteer opportunity please contact any of us. We would love the opportunity to tell you more about the special events we’re envisioning for 21-22.

SMN Athletics & Activities
Athletic Update
69th Annual North Relays, Friday, May 7 9:00 am – 11:00 pm
- Session I: 9:00am - All field events including girls pole vault @ 11:00am
- Session II: 4:00pm - All running events and boys pole vault @ 6:00pm
- $10 Adult; $5 K-12; no special passes
Summer Camp Registration Information – Summer Camps begin June 1st! Grades are determined by the 2021-2022 school year. Contact our coaches for (see registration form) directly for questions regarding sport specific camps.
Boys Tennis: Last week, the boy’s tennis team had a productive week. A JV win against SM South and a varsity split finished the JV season on a positive note. It also prepared the competitors for a strong Varsity League showing. The team was paced by Dayton Moody’s 13th place finish in the League.
This week will end with the Regionals competition.
If you don’t see an update for your student’s sport, please check twitter accounts for baseball (@sm_baseball), softball (@smnsoftball), soccer (@smn_GirlsSoccer), and track and field (@SMNtrack).
Notes from the Athletic Director
SAVE the DATES:
- Wednesday, May 5th, NLI Athletic signing for all students. Any athlete that is signing to play collegiate athletics please see Ms. Gonzales in the main office by Wednesday 3/31. The ceremony will be 5/5 in the Field House - 3:00pm
- NORTH Relays - Friday May7th, 9:00am-10:00pm
Live Eligibility - The athletic department practices live eligibility via skyward reports. A friendly reminder our student-athletes must be passing 5 courses in order to participate in competitions.
Dual Participation Athlete (JJ) – If your student is interested in participating in two after-school activities please complete the DUAL ATHLETIC PARTICIPATION CONTRACT and schedule a meeting with both coaches and the athletic director.

Return to Play Update
The district has made the decision to change the doctors allowed to release students from COVID Return to Play to only MD, PO and APRN; DC and PA-C will be removed, as they do not have the ability to perform cardiac assessments.
KSHSAA Guidelines Return to Play
SMSD partners with The Health Partnership, which is a medical practice with family physicians and pediatricians; they also have equipment to perform an EKG. The Health Partnership the only federally funded health clinic in Johnson County. They accept families with no insurance as well as families with health insurance coverage. They have offices on the Shawnee Mission Medical Center campus and in Olathe.
Face coverings for all attending and supporting interscholastic activities. The only exception is for those actively participating in competition.

2021 High School Graduation Ceremonies
Watch live on cable or online
The Shawnee Mission School District is pleased to provide a variety of options to watch the graduation ceremonies for SM North and Horizons.
Each ceremony will be filmed and available for viewing on our cable channels, YouTube, and as a digital download.
The district will also livestream all of the graduation events as they happen and later, on-demand, at these links;

All graduations also will be aired live on our cable channels. Here is the schedule by day:
May 25th: 7 p.m. SM North live on Spectrum Cable channel 2, & Consolidated Communications channel 18.
Wednesday, May 26:
6:30 p.m. Horizons graduation live on Spectrum Cable channel 18.
We are not able to offer a cable TV rebroadcast schedule this year to be included in the programs. We have included a printable QR code with directions, that will direct a device to the SMSD YouTube graduation playlist.
After the event, scan the QR code on the form below to view each night's ceremony on YouTube or at later date, be directed to a playlist of all the SMSD 2021 graduation ceremonies, available for downloading and viewing on-demand.

SMN BOOSTER CLUB
VOLUNTEERS NEEDED FOR NORTH RELAYS CONCESSIONS - FRIDAY, MAY 7
This is the largest high school track & field meet in Kansas and an ALL HANDS ON DECK event!!
The SMN Booster Club will be running concessions for the North Relays and we need help selling and grilling food to serve 100s of participants and fans! Volunteers shifts run from 7:30am-8:30pm - click on the link below for more info and to sign-up!!

Celebrate the tradition of Shawnee Mission North. Legacy Bricks are a great way to honor students, alumni, and staff! For a tax deductible donation of $45, an engraved brick will be added to the Legacy Brick Courtyard, located just outside the SMN stadium/pool entrance.
