Bulldog Bulletin
September 10th, 2023
Dear Bulldog Families-
I hope you enjoyed your weekend. Finally, it will feel like fall this week! If there is rain at the beginning of the day any day this week, we will bring students inside, through the front doors, and they will wait in the auditorium until the first bell rings at 835a. Please help us to remind students that breakfast is available everyday at 820a.
All students have been assigned lockers. Therefore, students should not be carrying electronics or backpacks throughout the day. If students are found to have either of these two items, they will be asked to put them in their lockers. If they are found a second time, teachers will collect the electronics and give them to the office for students to pick up at the end of the day; backpacks will need to be placed in lockers. Please support us and have conversations with your students at home about these school commitments. Also, while giving friendly reminders to your student, remind them not to share their locker codes with any other students. We greatly appreciate your support!
I briefly shared during Open House in August our school's Big Rocks: Instructional Excellence and Positive School Culture. One way to ensure that we are striving for both these pillars, is having students in class, everyday, and on time. Galileo's average attendance rate at the end of the 2022-2023 school year was 84%. I set our school goal for 90% average attendance for this coming school year. We cannot do it without your help, though. If your student is ill, please keep them home. Otherwise, we want them at school five days a week, from 820a-349p. Please speak with your student(s) about the importance of getting to class on time. Students that are tardy and miss more than 10min of class will be marked absent. If students have three consecutive tardies, those tardies will turn into an absence. This policy is not one set forth by Galileo, but by through District 11 Board Policy. With your support, I know we can meet our new goal for the year.
In partnership,
Julia
Picture Above: Mrs. Kitazono's sixth period class had fun with the Pringle Challenge. The goal was to collaboratively create a standing ring of pringles without using tape or glue. One group figured it out! Ta da!

New D11 Safety Technology Information
Dear D11 Middle School Families,
Safety is the top priority in Colorado Springs School District 11, and the District employs various strategies and technologies to ensure the safety of both students and staff. One new innovative tool being introduced is Lightspeed Alert, which will be deployed starting with our middle schools.
Lightspeed Alert is designed to comprehensively scan D11-issued devices and the software used by our students. Its primary purpose is to identify and alert the District to potential safety issues, including instances of bullying, threats, and self-harm. In response to these concerns, a dedicated team of district staff members will collaborate to thoroughly investigate and take appropriate action. The implementation of Lightspeed Alert underscores our unwavering commitment to maintaining a secure and supportive learning environment for everyone in District 11.
For more information about how LightSpeed Alert works or if you have questions for the District, please use the Let’s Talk tab on the home page, www.d11.org. Thank you.
