Rhino Weekly Connection
5.23.23
Note from the Principal, Kristen Smetzer!
Happy last week of school! We are wrapping up our time together with quite a few opportunities to celebrate and recognize all of the hard work our kids and teachers have put in to this year. I know that, for kids, this week can feel exciting, bittersweet, sad, and maybe even scary. We are here to support them with this transition, to value their feelings, and to proceed smoothly into this upcoming break.
Our fifth grade continuation and cake reception is this Thursday from 9:00-10:30! Families are invited to join us for this event - just be sure that you check in at the main office. Also, I understand that some families check their student out after the event. If you are doing that, please be sure to check them out through the main office, following all of our typical check out procedures.
Please be sure to check out the details below about yearbooks. We are distributing them in classes this week and have a few extra available for purchase.
We are moving three classrooms for next year, including our music room, our ILC spaces, and a general education classroom. If you are interested in helping us box things up or move large items on Friday, please sign up on this link.
Looking forward to seeing you at the end of school barbecue on Thursday afternoon! Thank you all for your incredible support and partnership this year. Ryan really is a special place.
Go Rhinos!
Kristen

News from the Health Room - Medication pick up
News From the Health Room
With just thirteen days of school left, it's time to connect with the Health Room about picking up your child's medication, i.e., pain medications, allergy meds, etc. Parents who have a child with an "urgent med"(i.e., epi-pen, inhaler, etc.) at school should not plan to pick-up meds until the last four days of school. Unclaimed medications will be disposed of, we are unable to store any medications at school, over the summer.
If you plan to have a med at school for your child for next school-year, please have your child's physician complete the authorization form (below) before the first day of school. Forms must be updated each school-year and accompany the medication in the original packing.
Feel free to reach out to Miss Chrystal, our Health Room Aide, with any questions or concerns at chrystal.terhune@bvsd.org OR 720.561.7009.

Registering for Buses 2023-24 School Year
You may have already received this email from BVSD Transportation Department if your student is eligible to ride the school bus, please sign up prior to the deadline of July 1st.
If you need help setting up your parent portal, please contact jamie.hanes@bvsd.org.
As we begin to plan bus routes for the 2023-24 school year, we are asking families to register for the bus, so we know how many students to plan for at each school. This data will help us maximize the number of students we are able to transport next year.
If you need your child to ride the bus for the 2023-24 school year, please register for bus service on Infinite Campus. Registration opens May 1 and closes on Jul. 1 at 5 p.m.
Instructions to register your student(s) for the bus in IC are shown below.
As you may have heard, BVSD is continuing to face a bus driver shortage. For this reason, we are asking that families who have the ability to transport their own students to school do so in order to free up space on our buses for children who have no other way to get to school.
If you know someone who is looking for a part-time job with benefits, including health insurance, please encourage them to apply to be a bus driver here. BVSD provides all training to obtain a commercial driver’s license (CDL).
Thank you for your help with our planning process. If you have questions, or if your family circumstances change and you need to change your option, call the BVSD Transportation Department at 720-561-5120 or email us at transportation@bvsd.org.

2023-24 School Year FREE BREAKFAST & LUNCH!
Thanks to Colorado voters, breakfast and lunch will be free for students next year at your school! Students can eat a free breakfast and a free lunch, complete with unlimited salad bar, every day! Students will continue to enter their student ID, and optional second entrees can be purchased when available using money in each student’s meal account. Even though lunch is free next year, it is still very important that you fill out the free and reduced meal application, as it impacts funding for your school. Please find the link to that application via Infinite Campus here.
At BVSD, we believe in nutritious, locally-sourced ingredients and tasty meals, and we’re thrilled to be able to offer free meals to all students. We’re a leader in scratch-cooked school food, and we look forward to serving more students than ever next year! Learn more at food.bvsd.org.
