Lenten Reflection
5th Sunday of Lent
The readings for the 5th Sunday of Lent for Year B focus on God’s covenant with us, even though we are often unfaithful. The first reading (Jeremiah 31:31-34) speaks of a new covenant. The psalm (Psalm 51:3-4, 12-13, 14-15) sings “Create a clean heart in me, O God.” The second reading (Hebrews 5:7-9) speaks of the obedience of Jesus Christ brought about our salvation. And in the gospel (John 12:20-33) Jesus foretells his death and explains that those who follow him will find eternal life. (Young Catholics)
FROM THE PRINCIPAL
Dear Parent/Guardians,
Academic Decathlon - Congratulations
On March 6th, we had grade 6 – 8 students perform in the Annual Academic Decathlon. This year schools from San Francisco and Los Angeles were combined with a total of 22 schools. Our students had been preparing for it since November and the big day happened on March 6th starting at 7:40 through to 1:20pm. Students performed in a number of subject areas and I am proud to say that our students performed very well. Emma Morgan took 2nd place in Current Events and the team took 3rd place in the Logic section. Congratulations to the team: Avery Agbunag - Social Studies – 7; Aliyah Agbunag - No Individual Subject – 6; Dominico Aldaz - English – 6; Matthew Ayon - Religion – 7; Samantha Chun - Literature – 6; Gianna Crasta - Science – 8; Eric Dean - Math – 8; Daniela Garrido - Fine Arts – 8; Emma Morgan - Current Events - 7
Congratulations
Congratulations to Ava Bagaybagayan, Grade 4 whose Christmas Art submission for the MCA Christmas Artwork Contest was chosen to represent San Francisco in the National finals. We wish Ava all the best in the nationals.
Leukemia & Lymphoma Fundraiser
I wish to thank everyone for supporting the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society fundraiser to combat childhood cancer. A wonderful effort from our school community. We raised $....5,220.75. Please see gratitude letter below.
Principal Awards
Principal awards for the second trimester will take place on Wednesday, March 24th at 9am via Zoom. The Zoom link will be posted on SchoolSpeak on Tuesday.
Change to Calendar
Due to staff receiving the second vaccination next week, we have had to change the calendar for staff coverage. Thursday, March 25th is a Minimum day, and Friday, March 26th will be a Distance Learning day. While we do not like changing the calendar, due to the unusual circumstance regarding side effects of the vaccine, we are erring on the side of caution for all involved.
Covid Guidelines
Please note that we cannot ease up with our vigilance in following the CDC guidelines and the San Mateo County guidelines. The vaccine will only be effective if everyone in the community follows the current guidelines. The protection of our children should be the number one priority for everyone. Please note that our school community has done well in following the guidelines and that we have not had any positive cases at school. This does not mean there have not been positive cases with our families.
I wish to acknowledge the San Mateo County of Education for supporting Private schools during this whole process. They have brought us in on all decisions and certainly looked after us when it came to the vaccination of the staff at the school. Secondly, I wish to acknowledge San Mateo County Health Department as well. They have always been available for consultation with the school when we needed to clarify various concerns. Thirdly I wish to acknowledge our Governor who has been vigilant in ensuring the safety of all people in the state, unlike governors in other states.
Next Intake for In-person Learning
The next intake for in-person learning will occur on April 12th. Please notify the principal by email by April 1st if you wish for your child to return to in-person learning. It will appear that we will be going into cohorts for some grades that go over our maximum limits.
