Hello Parents! We have a few very important updates this week!
In your child’s Friday Folder you will find a 4-page permission slip packet for your child’s field trips this year. This form is new and is required by CPS in order for your child to attend any non-CPS sponsored field trips. If a field trip is a non-CPS sponsored event that means there are non-CPS employees present and helping run field trips. Your child’s teacher (and often additional school staff) will still always be present with your child regardless of the trip. We have included all of the currently scheduled field trips in the description area on the first page of this document so that you’re not having to sign this large document for every trip. You will need to initial on the line next to each individual field trip as well as fill out the packet in its entirety. If there is a certain field trip you do not give permission for, leave it blank or write ‘no’ on the line next to that trip. Please note that the word ‘scholar’ is used in place of ‘student’ in this form. This form must be completed in its entirety and returned to school prior to your child’s first field trip or they will not be able to attend. Text messages and verbal permission that has been okay in the past is no longer permitted by the district. We will make calls to follow up with any families we haven’t received packets from by October 6.
All of Ridgeway will be attending TRYPS performance of Annie on November 17th at 12:00pm at Launer Auditorium on Columbia College’s campus. We have several students performing which will be very fun! It will cost $4 per student to attend. On top of the large field trip packet described above there will be a half sheet regarding this trip and the opportunity to provide the $4 for your child’s admission and an option to sponsor another student who may not be able to. After money is collected, Ridgeway will cover the remaining cost of anything outside what is collected. ALL students will be able to attend this field trip regardless of ability to provide the $4.
As you all know, we have a new administration team at Ridgeway this year. Mrs. Graves and I believe that any time a child has left class or been removed from their setting due to behavior, parents/guardians should be notified, even if it is something fairly minor. This may mean you’re being contacted by administrators more often than you may have in the past. We believe that communication between school and home is vital to your child’s success. We look forward to partnering with you throughout the year!
If you ever have any questions or concerns, please feel free to reach out!
100 Year Celebration
Saturday, October 14
Our 100 Year Celebration on October 14th is quickly approaching! We would love to have some help with supplies and treats for the event. If you are willing and able, please sign up for anything you’d like to provide. https://www.signupgenius.com/go/10C0D4AADA928A2FFC43-44358025-100year
On the event invitation is a RSVP link. Please take a moment to indicate how many people in your family plan to attend (if you’re attending).
You’ll also notice there are slots available to sign up to create a picture display board representing a decade of Ridgeway. We have several tubs of photos and artifacts separated out by decade. We would rather keep these things at school since many are quite old and fragile, so transporting them back and from between school and home may be hard on them. If you sign up for one of those spots, you would need to be willing to come to Ridgeway and work in the teachers’ lounge on this project. If you have any questions about the sign up or volunteer opportunities, please do not hesitate to reach out!
Unit News
Unit A
Unit B
Unit B students use headphones each day. Please check in with your student to see if they have a set of headphones at school! Unit B also has snack time each day. Snack donations are welcomed and appreciated for those who forget snacks on occasion.
We are in need of party planners/coordinators for our season parties! Please contact Ms. McCoy at hmccoy@cpsk12.org if you are willing to help!
Unit C
Last Friday afternoon, Unit C students enjoyed their prize of popsicles and extra recess for collecting the most food donations at Ridgeway. We are so proud of the generosity of all of our Ridgeway families!
Fifth grade families, did your student give you the order form for the fifth grade photo? This photo will be taken on September 28, the same day as individual pictures. However, the fifth grade photo can only be ordered using the form. This will be the only time you can order a photo and forms are due by September 28.
