"Happy February! There are only four months left in the traditional school year. Make sure you keep an eye on the calendar for any upcoming learning breaks and ensure you stay on pace with your assignments. Please reach out to and celebrate your school counselor during National School Counselor week February 5th-9th. They work tirelessly to support you and would love to hear how they have impacted your lives. Don't forget about our annual Baking Stars event on February 14th, this is always so much fun! Senior Portraits will be taken on February 15th, make sure you sign up in advance. As always, reach out if you need help and take care of yourself."

We are looking for a parent or a few parent representatives for a districtwide Parent Advisory Council.
The purpose of this group is to build a bridge between District and School that allows for parent-district collaboration to take place in a meaningful, structured manner. This group will meet virtually each quarter with one face-to-face session at our May 2024 district board meeting.

Important Note: Students who do not participate in the required state testing will face disciplinary action and will not be eligible to re-enroll in SC Whitmore School. Testing windows, including those for End of Course Exams, are set by the state. To fill the gap between when a student finishes and EOC course and the test date, we have EOC Prep courses for Algebra and Biology. Teachers of English 2 and US History send exam review videos and other test prep material.

Experience the Life of a Cadet - The Citadel
To fully experience the life of a cadet, The Citadel offers a monthly opportunity for prospective students to spend a full 24 hours as part of the Corps of Cadets. Interested students check-in at 5:00 PM on Thursday to spend the night in the barracks and eat in the mess hall. On Friday, parents and students attend information sessions, cadet panels, and academic forums designed provide an in-depth look at academic programs and the cadet experience at The Citadel.

The 3rd Annual Focus HBCU College Fair, February 29, 2024
The college fair will be at the Charlotte Convention Center, on Thursday, February 29, 2024, from 9:00 am β 1:00 pm. Target audience is high school juniors, seniors, and college students. The goal is to provide students with access to information that they may not normally receive about the HBCU experience. During the College Fair, students will visit with Admissions Officers from over 30 HBCUs, participate in workshops to learn more about applying for scholarships, and have numerous opportunities to receive scholarships from attending colleges, universities, and education nonprofits from across the south.

We recommend students complete their online registration by February 23, 2024, to maximize their college admission and scholarship opportunities. Students bring 5 transcripts to the event. Greetings from the University of North Georgia!
Weβre looking for high school seniors and college freshmen who want to serve our nation as second lieutenants (officers) in the U.S. Army. Scholarships pay for room and board (up to $12,000 per year) or tuition and fees. It also pays a $420/month stipend and a $1,200/year book allowance. Click here for eligibility criteria, benefits, and how to apply. In addition, Georgia resident ROTC scholarship recipients receive grants of up to $2,000 per semester. These benefits combine for about $15,570/year to $19,500/year.
This past year, more than 70 high school seniors were awarded three- and four-year ROTC scholarships to enroll in the Corps of Cadets at UNG.
The scholarship leads to a professional career as an active-duty Army second lieutenant (O1) with excellent benefits and starting compensation (Department of Defense Calculator):
- Single with less than 2 years of service stationed at Ft. Stewart near Savannah, GA: $72,769
- Single with 4 years of service as a Soldier in the Guard while in the Corps of Cadets at Ft. Benning, GA: $79,053
- Married with less than 2 years of service at Ft. Liberty, NC: $67,562
- Married with four years of service at Ft. Campbell, KY: $80,853
Second lieutenants become captains (O3) at four yearsβ time of service after graduating from UNG and commissioning. Army captain compensation (Department of Defense Calculator):
- Single with 4 years of service, stationed at Ft. Cavazos, TX: $105,324
- Married with 4 years of service at Ft. Lewis, WA: $116,619
In addition to regular military compensation, Army lieutenants accumulate incomparable leadership experience, pay no health insurance (families included), get 30 days of paid vacation, pay inexpensive dental and life insurance, and reap the benefits of a blended retirement system.
During the past seven years, UNG has commissioned an average of more than 100 cadets each year as Army lieutenants.

I have been teaching for 27 years. I am a proud Clemson Tiger graduate!! I live in Charleston, SC with my husband (also a teacher) and two daughters, Savannah and Grace.
What do you do at SCWS and what do you enjoy most about your role?
I am a math teacher here SCWS in my 6th year. I love the connections made with students working one on one. Taking math online is not ideal (I know this!) so I love when a difficult concept "clicks" for a student and they find success!

The deadline to submit artwork to be considered for the Spring issue is March 15, 2024.
S.C. Whitmore Student Council is an organization of student leaders who are elected by the student body. The Council is led by the Student Body President along with offices of Vice President and Secretary. The Council provides input into how to make student life better at SC Whitmore School. They also plan events and contribute in other areas the administration of the school sees fit. The Council is advised by a faculty sponsor who attends all meetings.
Beta Club is a group of students committed to leading through serving others in their community and state. These students are selected based upon their GPA, attendance and behavior. Students work to complete volunteer hours, as well as come together as a team to complete a service project. Induction Ceremony is held in the fall.

Lit Lunch is a virtual meet-up for creative students who want to meet new friends and share what latest creative project theyβre working on. Whether youβre into cosplay, digital art, drawing by hand, photography, rapping, writing or playing instruments, this is the space for you! We meet on the first Thursday of each month from 1-2 p.m
The SC Whitmore National Honor Society is an organization for students in grades 10-12. Selection is based on four criteria: scholarship, character, leadership, and service. Members complete volunteer hours and work together to complete at least one service project each school year. Membership into the National Honor Society allows students to apply for over 400 college scholarships not available to other students. Members also have access to numerous college planning services.
Students are eligible to participate in sports and other extracurricular activities at their local high school. Contact your local high school for more information.
