Fairview Falcon Family Newsletter
January 2023

From the Principal
Dear families:
Welcome back! Truly, I hope that you enjoyed the holiday season with your friends and loved ones. I know that our staff enjoyed the time away to rest and recharge, but all of them are ready and excited to welcome students back to class on Wednesday!
Here are a few updates:
- We collected nearly $600 in donations for Miss Feriel's retirement gift. We were able to surprise her with your gift during her retirement reception prior to Winter Break. Your generosity never ceases to amaze me. Thank you! Please see a personal note from Miss Feriel below.
- Summer School information will be shared with you all very soon. I highly recommend Summer School for most students especially rising Kindergartners, rising 6th graders, or if a family has concerns about their child's academic performance.
- Our building is scheduled to undergo 2 construction projects later this Spring. As a result, FVE will be closed for Summer School. We will join our neighbors at Mill Creek for Summer School instead.
- Mini Courses are making their triumphant return to Fairview. See below for the official announcement, and be on the lookout for more information to be sent home on Friday January 6th.
- All students will take the district's next iReady Reading and Math assessments in the month of January. We are excited to see how much growth our students will undoubtedly show!
Thank you,
Dr. Simmons, Principal
From Miss Feriel
Dear Fairview Family and Staff,
I want to thank everyone so much for the sweet and thoughtful gifts. To say that I feel blessed, grateful and fortunate to work with each of you is an understatement. Working at Fairview Elementary School has been one of the best and honorable experiences of my life. This next chapter will be exciting .
Thank you all again from the bottom of my heart.
All my love,
Ferielđ

Winter Weather
As cooler weather approaches, please dress your child accordingly. During this time of the year it is hard to predict the weather, so dressing in layers is always a great idea. Our students go outdoors for recess unless the "feels like" temperature drops below 20 degrees.

Limited scholarships will be available.
Specialist Updates
Hello Fairview Families đ
Another note from the gym! Classes have finished up our non-locomotor skills. Itâs been so fun to watch them moving in different ways! We also played Sailors and Sea Creatures on the last day with the mats out. Please continue to email or send in photos of your kiddos in action! Iâve received a few and put them up on the bulletin board. Finally, PLEASE help your kiddos remember their tennis shoes. There have been some situations where kids must sit out of some activities because of unsafe footwear. Might as well wear them every day, I do!!
As always, thank you for your continued support!
Happy Holidays!!
Sincerely,
Mr. Wright
From the Art Room:
Hello Fairview Families! Students have been busy in art class finishing up our Portrait unit and beginning our Still Life unit. Hopefully some of their artwork made it home this month. You can also see their work on SeeSaw. Each student is saving a few of their favorite pieces for the Art Show that we will host in March. Students will continue working on Still Life artworks after winter break.
Happy Holidayâs to you and your family!
Thanks,
Lindsay Robb

From the Media Center
Media Center News:
We continue to add lots of new books that students are loving! In older grades we have highlighted mysteries and some read-alike books of âold favoritesâ. Middle grades continue to explore series that are âjust rightâ for readers. Younger grades have looked at books by favorite authors, including Karma Wilson, Tedd Arnold and Laura Numeroff. Students have enjoyed all the holiday books also. Remember to help your student find a safe place to keep books at home â and help them look for missing books!

Technology Specials
Technology Specials
In Technology we have been learning to code and improving the coding skills we have already learned. Kindergarten has been using Kodable and all other grades have been coding in Scratch Jr. Have a great holiday break and we will see everyone in January!

From the Music Room
December always brings a ton of fun to the Music Room. We have been performing movement activities to The Nutcracker, and all grade levels had our singing and coloring day. This is a Fairview tradition where we spend our entire class time singing familiar holiday songs and coloring together. It is a strong community building activity, and our students look forward to it each year. We wrapped up December with music celebrations for following the Falcon Four. Starting in January, we will welcome Ms. Chloe Prewett to the music room as our student teacher. Ms. Prewett is a music education major from Mizzou and has spent time at Fairview in previous years during her Field studies. We look forward to welcoming her back to Fairview.
