Suffern Central Budget Information
Budget Workshop #1
The goals of our budget are to:
- ensure financial stability
- protect staffing to ensure programmatic and student needs are met
- support student and teacher learning opportunities
- provide a safe and supportive environment with a focus on well being
- adjust budget lines to accurately reflect expenditures
- stay within the tax cap levy
2024-25 District Enhancements
These are being explored and prioritized as we wait to finalize our aid, revenues and expenditures:
- literacy instruction enhancements
- special education structure/needs
- student safety & wellbeing
- bilingual education
- technology
- facility improvements
- transportation services
Things to note:
- NY state budget is projecting a $4.3 billion deficit and are looking at a change to the foundation aid formula.
- Elimination of Hold Harmless - Currently the Hold Harmless law guarantees district can maintain the same foundation aid. This may change.
- ARP (ESSA) Funds have come to an end
- The District is working with our non-public school partners and legislatures to review alternate ways and opportunities to provide transportation to those schools that will be beneficial for all.
- With inflation and increased costs across the country, insurance and retirement costs increase 8-16%.
Board of Education Petition Announcement
This year’s Suffern Central School District Budget and Candidate vote will take place on Tuesday,
May 21. If any resident of the school district is interested in running for a position on the
Board of Education, petitions will be available starting on Friday, March 1.
Petition packets may be picked up at the Suffern Central School District Administration Building,
45 Mountain Avenue, Hillburn, NY between the hours of 10:00 AM & 4:00 PM, Monday through
Friday on days when school is in session. Completed petitions must be received by the Elections Clerk no later than 5:00 PM on Monday, April 22, 2024. Three seats on the Board of Education are up for
election.
