First Grade and Student Council Service Projects for the Giving Tree
Student Council and all first grade classes participated in making projects for The Giving Tree organization. This organization's mission is to teach children the priceless lessons of giving through the educational process of service-learning. The Giving Tree provides all materials to make the projects as well as resources that help teachers spark valuable discussions about helping others.

Giant-Round Up at the Register
The Methacton School District is once again partnering with the GIANT Company on a special school program to help support our students. From now through February 28, 2022, GIANT customers can “ROUND UP AT THE REGISTER” to support the Methacton Backpack Program. Customers at the local GIANT (Egypt Road) can “round up” their grocery total at the register and the cumulative total of all the “spare change” donated will go into a fund for the Methacton School District. Last year, this fundraiser awarded more than $6,600 to the Methacton Backpack Program.
Standards Based Grading
The Methacton School District uses a standards-based grading system for students in grades K-4. This system helps us more accurately measure students’ mastery of PA Core Academic Standards in all subjects. The elementary report cards have been revised to reflect the changes to the state standards and Methacton’s curricula. The goal of this approach to reporting is to provide parents, students, and teachers with a detailed picture of what students know and are able to demonstrate. The information provided on the report card encourages dialogue about areas of strength and need, and how our students can continue to grow academically.
This article, Seven Reasons for Standards-Based Grading, explains more about standards-based grading.
As your child’s teacher explained during our Back-to-School night, I CAN statements have been developed to share with you what skills your child is being assessed on and the expectation of mastery for each trimester. The I CAN statements are listed on our MSD Family Center.

Masks are required inside the building.
Counselor's Corner
Fourth grade students are learning about stress management. Part one is to identify what stress looks like and feels like to you. The next time you or your child feel stressed, pause to notice and talk about what happens in your body… does your heart beat faster, does it get harder to breathe, do you get butterflies in the belly or maybe a headache. Once you notice stress, you can use some tools to deal with it. Look for part two and learning strategies for stress next week.
