SUPPORTING OUR NEW TEACHERS
Lizzie Lakose, 1st Grade
Lizzie Lakose and the instructional coach partnering together during reading and center time. Students are learning to blend, read and spell sight words. Ms. Lakose's students are using clues to analyze the text. We're glad you're at GHV!
Kelsey Koch, 9-12 PE
Students in both PE and PE Weights are off to a fantastic start! Together Kelsey Koch and the instructional coach brainstormed a weight lifting template for students to record their progress. Every 5th weight day, the students are enjoying the flexibility in creating their own lifting routine. We're glad you're at GHV!
Seth Moore, Contemporary World Issues
Seth Moore is challenging his students to be knowledgeable about what's going on in the world. Seth Moore and the instructional coach are partnering together to brainstorm and explore different student engagement strategies. We're glad you're at GHV!
Dominic Armitage, 7th Grade Math
Seventh grade students in Dominic Armitage's class are analyzing proportional relationships and using them to solve real-world problems. Dominic and the instructional coach are collaborating on thinking tasks and student engagement strategies. We're glad you're at GHV!
OUTSIDE COLLABORATION
CREATING CLASSROOMS FOR THINKING
Renee Weisenstein (high school math) has been exploring strategies for Creating Classrooms for Thinking. It's a shift from how we were taught in school and how we've (likely) been taught to teach.
If you're interested in observing Renee try some of these strategies with her students, let me know! I'd be happy to come cover your classroom. It can be hard to not tell the students exactly what they need to know (what's going through our brains is that we only have so much time with them and we need to keep going). However, teachers often end up doing the heavy lifting in class. We don't need to do the heavy lifting, we're not the ones learning the material. The students need to do the talking and the teachers need to be the facilitators.
Reflection question for your classroom: Who is doing the majority of the talking?
DOES ACTIVITY = THINKING?
