Fun Fall Activities for Families
As the temperatures cool and families get back in the routine of school, activities, and shorter days, it is a great time to explore some outside activities. Research shows being outside helps with mood, reduces anxiety, depression, and other psychiatric issues for all ages. Your teen or tween may give the impression family time isn’t fun or “cool”, but according to poll findings released by MTV and Associated Press showed that most young people see their parents as an overwhelmingly positive influence in their lives. Nearly half of the 1,280 youth ages 13-24 who were interviewed identified one of their parents as their hero, and when asked what one thing made them most happy, they were most likely to say, “Spending time with family.” Fall is a perfect time to relax and get outside together or solo! Follow the link for creative ideas for families, teens, and tweens. Most are free or very inexpensive and good for your mental health!

Free breakfast and lunch for students!
We have great news!
Due to an extension of a program through the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), in cooperation with the Department of Health and Senior Services, all students will be provided one breakfast and one lunch meal FREE daily, effective September 1, 2020 through December 18*, 2020.
What does this mean for you, as a parent? Meal charges August 24 through August 31 will remain debited according to the current meal rate for which you qualify. Meal prices can be found here. September 1 through December18*, there will be no charge for one breakfast and one lunch meal provided to students. (Charges for students who ate breakfast and/or lunch from September 1st-14th will be reversed.) A la carte items, such as extra milk, will be charged as usual.
Are virtual and quarantined students able to participate? Yes. The program that has been extended is the one we run for our free summer meals. Any child age 0-18 are eligible. If you would like your child(ren) to receive meals, please email Opaa! Kitchen Manager, Tabitha Woodworth, at twoodworth@holdenschools.org. Meals ordered by 8:30am will be available for pick-up at the 3-5 cafeteria door from 12:30-12:45pm daily.
Will the free after-school snack still be offered as well? Yes! The USDA is allowing us to participate in both the Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) for the after-school snacks, as well as the extension for free breakfast and lunch.
*The extension is intended to last until winter break or until allocated USDA funds for the program have been depleted.
