RootEd Awards
Congrats to our 2020-2021 Award Winners!!
We are so thankful for the effort everyone put into making this year happen. Whether it was adding their RootEd hashtag to their post or working with their Principal to put on a virtual Kinder Round Up, you all worked so hard to be cheerleaders for your schools. The pandemic made it hard to do what we normally do, so it took more effort to be creative and show parents what the schools were all about. You all are amazing! It takes a group effort to market the schools to help parents make choices. RootEd would be nothing without the help of our Reps, school staff, principals and parents. Thank you for everything you do.
RootEd Staff Member of the Year
We love seeing teachers and staff at our RootEd schools promote their programs on social media! It’s important to share the stories. Ms. Morrish does an excellent job at Bellaire along with their fabulous RootEd Rep, Rosemary Longoria.

Legislative Updates
3-Legged Stool
Update from Sophie Torres, RYHT Regional Director for Advocacy and Outreach - San Antonio Area
The federal government provided three separate rounds of federal stimulus funding for public education. These funds, totaling over $19.2 billion for Texas, allow districts to implement health and safety measures including air quality improvements and provide resources to stem learning loss such as tutoring, after-school and extended-year programs.
Unlike most states, Texas did not flow federal funds to schools immediately, and they supplanted Round 1, over $1.1 billion and will supplant a little over $2 billion as a whole. State leadership and members of the legislature held on to the funds from Round 2 and 3 for various reasons, including wanting to place additional restrictions on school use of these funds. Schools will receive over $15.1 billion in the coming months to use on a wide array of programs. Funds will flow based on the proportion of Title I students.
Depending on your school, you may not know what the supplanted, or swapped, amount from the 2nd round of funding will be until September of this year for the newly released Round 2 of federal funds. TEA will also have over $1.9 billion for statewide grant programs, mostly budgeted for Accelerated Learning programs across the state in HB 4545.
