Message from the Principal
Dear Hilhi Families,
We are more than half way through the first quarter, so it's a good time to check in with your student about their grades. You can log into ParentVue or take a look at your child's StudentVue with them. Ask your child about any grades you are concerned about. If you need more support, you can reach out to the teacher to find out how your child can catch up. Remember, an 'I' means incomplete and will turn to an F if not completed.
Starting this week, we are providing support for students who are behind in class on Thursdays and Fridays during Spartan Academy. Students earning Incomplete marks are assigned to sessions to support their academics. Those who are up to date on their classes get to choose from a variety of a incentives such as soccer, art and fantasy football. Ask your child what they will be attending this session and find out what they are learning!
Wednesday day the 18th is a big day for our sophomores. Unless opted out by a parent, all sophomores will be taking the Pre-ACT test free of charge. This college entrance exam will give you and your child guidance on post-high school opportunities. Please make sure all 10th graders come to school rested, fed and on time on Wednesday!
I'm looking forward to hearing our choir perform on Tuesday night, and watching our football team and award-winning marching band on the field Friday night. Go Sparts!
My Best,
Cary Meier
Principal

Paying for College/Community College/Trade Schools - What is Financial Aid? When do I apply for Financial Aid this year?
Students and their families should complete either the FAFSA or ORSAA to be eligible for federal, state and college/university aid.
The Free Application for Student Aid or FAFSA is the form for US Citizens and Eligible Non Citizens. The completion of this form opens the opportunity for students and their families to receive financial aid from both the federal government and the state government along with college and university aid - This can be a great first step in paying for college - grants and work study.
The Oregon Student Aid Application or ORSAA is the form for Oregon residents who have undocumented status, Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) status, and/or Temporary Protected Status (TPS). Though students will not be eligible for federal government aid (information from the ORSAA is not shared with the federal government), they are eligible for Oregon State aid and college and university aid.
Both student aid applications will open in December 2023. This is a change from the traditional October 1 opening. Both the FAFSA and ORSAA applications are going through an extensive revision to make the forms easier to complete (down to just over 40 questions from over 100 questions in previous years).
Students and families can register for accounts now (FAFSA registration ORSAA Registration) and be ready to apply in December
All students and their families considering education after high school (college, university, community college, trade schools) should fill out either the FAFSA or ORSAA as soon as possible when it opens in December.
Not sure which form to fill out for your situation? - check here
