Here's to a great weekend!
Hopefully you have carved out some space in your weekend to spend time with your kids and enjoy the weather (praying for sun or snow, but not rain). I plan on heading up to the mountains to go play in the snow with my two kids. In looking at the weather, I just might make alternate plans. Oy vey! We try to spend as much time outside in the snow as we can. Partly because I am fighting the same fight you might be, less screen time and more outside time. It's a brave new world.
On a separate note, we have one more week until midterms. Now is a great time to review ParentVue and have conversations with your student(s) about missing assignments and test redo's or make-ups.
Cheers,
Greg B.
In The Know
Flu Bug - Lane County is experiencing higher rates of influenza ("flu"). If you think that your student may have influenza, please keep them home until at least 24 hrs after fever is gone (no fever and not using fever-reducing medicine like Tylenol or Advil). If you have questions about your student's health, feel free to contact me.
Message from the Oregon Department of Transportation - Something big is happening October first of this year. If you aren’t paying attention, it might mean missing your flight out of PDX or any other airport across the U.S.
On that date the Transportation Security Administration, or TSA, begins requiring a new type of identification to board a commercial aircraft. The new ID must be compliant with something called the Real ID Act. It’s designed to keep us safer in the air, but if you try to board an aircraft using your current Oregon driver license starting in October – it won’t work. That’s because the current Oregon driver license is not Real ID compliant.
Oregon DMV will begin offering a Real ID option on July 6, 2020. To fulfill the demand of nearly one million Oregonians who will want the Real ID option, DMV would have to issue 32 licenses a second every business day from July to October. That’s just not possible.
If you don’t have a Real ID compliant form of ID at the airport, TSA will put you through an alternate identity verification process that could take an hour or more, and you could miss your flight.
There is an answer for Oregonians: obtain and use a passport or passport card. The cost of getting a new passport card is roughly equal to that of getting a replacement license with the Real ID option – and you can apply now at one of over 76 acceptance sites across Oregon.

By the way, Washingtonians already have the option of getting a Real ID compliant driver license. If you are a Washington resident, go to https://id2020wa.com/ to find out more.

Kudos
Huge shout out to Claire Bierman in the Health Clinic. She went above and beyond in making phone calls on behalf of a student who lost his glasses. Thanks to Claire our student will have a new pair of glasses in a couple of weeks. We can't thank you enough for all you do for our kids.
Scott Johnson - Thank you for your vigilant eye. You have definitely coalesced with the student body and been a supporting factor in kids going to class. Students are realizing that you and Guy are everywhere and that the need to be in class is a priority. Thank you for helping that happen. We appreciate you.
Nita Halstead - Thank you Nita for all the work you have done with 504 accommodations and student needs. Your job is simply overwhelming and you dedicate so much of your personal time making sure student needs are met. I am proud to have you on staff and your work with teachers is exemplary.
