HOPE SPRINGS ETERNAL!
Hope is a good thing!
Dear Viking Family,
The Shawshank Redemption is one of my all-time favorite movies. (fun fact - itβs also one of Coach Craten Phillipsβ) One of the best lines in the whole movie is about hopeβ¦
One of our juniors, Matthew Purkey, applied to be in PALS next year and part of that process is writing a short essay. As he rushed to catch the bus for the Regional Track Meet, he asked if I could print his essay. I quickly printed the document; he took it off the printer, thanked me, and away he went! I didnβt take the time to read his essay until today.
Matthewβs timing was perfect! His message was filled with hope, which is perfect for this Easter season. Hereβs what Matthew wrote about his PALS experience this year:
But the main thing I can say I learned is how to be the best person I can be for my PALeeβs. Iβve grown so close to both of them and I hope they would say the same. I was so nervous in the beginning; I was so worried if I would be good with kids or if I would mess something up or do something wrong. I quickly learned that they didnβt care if I made a little mistake, they were just grateful they had me there for them. I hope my kids remember all the times I pushed them on the swings, or played tag running all over the playground. I hope they remember all the words I helped them pronounce and all the pages we read together. I hope my PALee remembers the 9βs multiplication trick I taught him, and I hope my other PALee remembers how to subtract 10 from every number like I taught him.
I hope.
This season reminds me so much of hope. Matthewβs message could be written by any teacher, any parent, any pastor, or any person with a servantβs heart. People like Matthew are just trying to do their best for others. Theyβre just trying to make a difference. They are just trying to make the world a better place. In doing so, they give us hope.
Thank you, Matthew! You (and so many others in our school) give us hope!
βRemember, hope is a good thing, maybe the best of things, and no good thing ever dies.β

VIKINGS KEEP LAGO BEAUTIFUL
GIVING BACK TO OUR COMMUNITY
Keep Lago Vista Beautiful hosted a community wide clean up last weekend and over 45 students from LVHS showed up to help out! We had student groups like our Valkyries Drill Team (above), PALs, Cheerleading, and the Green Team that volunteered their time and effort to pick up litter around town. Vikings aren't afraid to get our hands a little dirty if it means we can serve the community we love! Great job, Vikings!

GREAT SEASON FOR GIRLS GOLF
REGIONAL RESULTS
We are extremely proud of the Lady Viking Golf Teams' efforts at this week's Regional Tournament. The play was all that a spectator would want a sporting event to be! Emotions were high, and every stroke in every group was crucial to each team's score! With a Team Score of 691, the Lady Vikings finished 4th in the tournament and are the Alternate Team to State. Individually, we had several girls in the Top 15, including:
- 10th - Jenna Janson (82*, 74*)
- 11th - Adriana Owen (83, 80*)
- 13th - Violet Wheeler (86, 81*)
These girls battled, sickness, ear aches, hurt toes, jellyfish stings, numb arms, bee stings, skin irritations, waking up early, adrenaline pumping on the first tee, balls in the sand and water, but they did it with a great attitude and amazing effort! Great job, Lady Vikes!
