STUCO
Hello cardinal nation, This is your student council reporter. February is an exciting month. But we do have an important event: a way for you to show your love and appreciation for others. You can do this by gifting somebody a valentine gram. Whether it be your friend, teacher, classmate, or even somebody random. 1 Valentine gram is $1. You can buy them at the front entrance and Athletic entrance before school. We will start selling On the 5th and the deadline is the 13th. So hurry and get one or more. We will deliver them on Valentine's day. So make someone's valentine and get them one.

Student of the Month
Each month every 6th grade teacher will choose a student for any of the following reasons; someone who has been working hard in class, has shown growth and improvement in the content area, someone who is responsible and a good role model for their peers. We will have a short assembly at the end of the month and students will receive a certificate, medal and a non-uniform day bracelet. Families of the recipients will get a notification from their child’s teacher through Talking Points so they can attend. During this assembly we will also recognize the Citizenship award winner who is given to a student who is unanimously chosen by the teachers who demonstrates leadership, good character and great effort in all areas.
2nd Quarter GPA Awards

Odyssey & Voyagers
DCMS students on the Odyssey Team will be exposed to many learning opportunities in the month of February. In Ms. Figueroa’s math they will be solving problems using expressions and equations. In Connect, students are going to continue with digital citizenship and then they are going to dive into some cross-curricular inquiry-based activities while learning about the influence and impact Black Americans have had on our history. They will watch a movie and have an activity with it, escape room, and some activities with google slides. Seventh grade ELA classes will be finishing up reading The Outsiders and creating a project incorporating the things they’ve learned, like: characterization, point of view, plot structure and parts of speech. February also brings KELPA testing, students will be tested on reading, writing, listening and speaking. In Mr. Varner’s science, students in science will learn about Newton’s Laws of Motion and how these laws affect the world we live in. In social studies, students will learn about the experiences of various American explorers who explored our area. After that, they will study two major overland trails that crossed our state: The Santa Fe Trail and the Oregon-California Trail.
