Lowell Family Newsletter

Message from Principal Phelan
Greeting Lowell Families,
The year is quickly coming to a close. Before the year ends, we are working hard to celebrate our successes this year. We experienced many twists in turns on our journey, and we are happy to say we made it through and became stronger for it. Please join us on zoom Tuesday night as Mr. Chen and I present the end-of-the-year i-Ready Data results. We'll also have teachers from each grade with us to discuss students' accomplishments by grade level. We will close with a brief presentation of our School Improvement Plan for 2022-2023 SIP.
Friday, June 24th is an early release day. Students are dismissed at 12:15.
Classroom/Teacher Assignments for the Coming Year are high on the minds of students and parents. This year we will not be hosting a Move-Up Day where students meet their new teachers and classmates or share class assignment information in Report Cards. Due to ongoing enrollment during the summer, we will be emailing out placement letters to families on August 1st. This is the practice we will use across the District, enabling us to make any adjustments to class lists during the summer as needed.
Tuesday, the Phillips and Lowell West will gather as a community for an end-of-the-year celebration. We will recognize our English Language Learners for moving out of direct English Language Instruction.
We will also recognize our students' fantastic fundraising effort during the Walk-a-Thon. We are proud to share that we were able to raise 14,000 dollars. But even more rewarding is knowing we are donating 7,000 dollars to Unicef as a school.
We will also celebrate all the students and teachers who made this year special. We have one staff member we want to give a very special shout-out to. Margaret Newton has worked as an instructional assistant at Lowell School for the past 24 years. She is also a former Lowell Student. As we walk out of the doors on Friday, Margaret is excited to begin her retirement. We wish her many years of joy, happiness, and health.
Report Cards and i-Ready Parent Reports go home Friday. I'm including a guide for reading i-Ready Parent Reports and Standard Based Report Card.
Thank you for your support and cooperation throughout this year. We couldn't do it without you!
With gratitude,
Stacy

Summer Solstice Celebration 2022: Night at the Harvard Museums of Science & Culture
11 Divinity Avenue, Cambridge, MA
After a long hiatus, the annual Summer Solstice Celebration at the Harvard Museums of Science & Culture is back—in-person! Join us on the longest day of the year from 5:00–9:00 PM to explore—free of charge—the galleries and new exhibitions at the Harvard Museum of Natural History, the Peabody Museum of Archaeology & Ethnology, the Collection of Historical Scientific Instruments, and the Harvard Museum of the Ancient Near East. Then step outdoors to create a community mural, enjoy uplifting musical and circus performances, make a flower crown, or enjoy a snack at a food truck. Don’t miss this wildly popular event for all ages.
See the new exhibitions, including Muchos Méxicos, Mediterranean Marketplaces, the immersive In Search of Thoreau’s Flowers, and the upcoming mini-exhibit Rice: A Story of Africa and the Americas.
Free parking will be provided at the 52 Oxford Street Garage.
Sponsored by Harvard Museums of Science & Culture in collaboration with the Harvard Graduate Commons, the Office for the Arts at Harvard, Harvard Summer School, and the Harvard Office for Sustainability. Presented with the generous support of the FAS Community Renewal Fund.
