This month has been a busy month. We are looking forward to Spring break and the last nine weeks of second grade. Students have been working hard. In math, students have learned a variety of strategies to add and subtract 3-digit numbers, solved one step word problems and practiced their math fluency and mental math. During these last nine weeks, we will focus on two-step word problems and revisit measurement and focus on counting coins. In reading, students have enjoyed learning about nonfiction texts; biography, reference, and literary. In the last nine weeks students will create their own nonfiction books. In Science, we are looking forward to learning and observing the life cycle of the butterfly. We loved the book character parade and were happy parents could come in to see all their child’s hard work in their data notebooks.

In Reading students have been working on reviewing all reading standards and test taking strategies. We finished reading The Wild Robot and the projects look amazing! We are currently reading The Wild Robot Escapes(the 2nd book in the series).
In Math students are continuing to work through Module 4: Fractions (Decomposing Fractions, Equivalent Fractions, Comparing Fractions, and Adding & Subtracting Fractions and Mixed Numbers.
In Social Studies students are learning about the different important documents in history (US and State Constitution, the Mayflower Compact, the Declaration of Independence, and the Amendments). Students will then create our very own Class Constitution that they will sign as a reminder of what rules they should be following for the remainder of the school year.

5th Grade
In Math, we started the month with dividing decimals and reviewing decimal operations. We learned about the different properties of quadrilaterals and the various ways that we can classify them. Towards the end of the month, we began our volume unit in which students are learning how to find the volume of cubes and rectangular prisms. In Science, we learned about Genetics and Heredity. We then reviewed Force and Motion and then moved into our last Science unit, Weather and Climate. We began learning about the differences between weather and climate. We took a field trip to the Aquarium in which we were able to review the different types of ecosystems, food webs, and food chains. Students were able to see the different animals at the Aquarium and where these animals are found in their natural habitat. In Literacy, we compared and/or contrasted two or more characters, settings, or events. We also discussed the following different types of literature: prose, poetry, and drama/play.
