NEWS FROM THE GUIDANCE DEPARTMENT
Junior – Student/Parent Information Session
On Wednesday, April 24, 2019, at 6:30 pm in the Auditorium, the Junior house counselors will present an important Information Session on The College Application Process. We will introduce the basic information about how to apply to college and will review the steps that students need to take next fall. We will also discuss what students can be doing over the summer to make things a bit easier in the fall. This session is intended to give an overview of the process and will be especially beneficial to students who are the oldest in their families.
- SAVE THE DATE: Wednesday, September 4, 2019 at 6:30 pm – We will review the College Application Process again for students and families and will go into much more detail about the “how to” of the application process.
- Please note: All information about the college application process will be posted on the Guidance Website > College Application Process page, including Step-by-Step instructions, how-to videos, and information students will need in the fall. This page has NOT YET BEEN UPDATED FOR THE CLASS OF 2020, but we will update it over the summer as soon as we receive the annual summer updates from Naviance and The Common Application. We will email students and parents in August when the information has been updated and posted.
Pre-Administration Day for AP Exams
On Wednesday, April 24th, all students who have already registered for one or more AP Exams in May must attend a Pre-Administration Session which will take place during an extended Advisory. During this session, students will fill in demographic and other information that is required for all AP exams. Filling in this information in advance saves students up to 45 minutes of additional ‘seat time’ on the day of the exam, reduces anxiety, and makes for a smoother test administration. All students taking AP exams are required to attend this session. Students who have a planned absence on that day, or who may be ill, will be rescheduled for another session prior to the start of AP Exams.
Pre-ACT scores
Students who took the Pre-ACT here at CB West on March 31st can expect to receive their Score Reports next week. They will be distributed to students in Advisory.
For Seniors – Scholarship Information
Seniors are encouraged to search Naviance’s Scholarship list regularly to discover scholarships and merit programs for which they might be eligible. Many application deadlines are in March and April. After logging into Naviance, go to: College tab > Scholarships and Money > Scholarship List. If students wish to search for local, regional and national scholarship opportunities, click on “Scholarship Search” from the same Naviance menu, or go to Guidance’s Scholarship Information page for more scholarship search sites and information.

CBW Band in Norfolk, VA
Members of the CB West Bands and Color Guard spent 3 days in and around Norfolk, Virginia. Students had rich, cross-curricular learning opportunities touring the USS Wisconsin at the Nauticus Museum and Colonial Williamsburg at night. They spent an afternoon at Norfolk State University, collaborating in small ensemble performance with the NSU students and faculty.
Our students had the opportunity to be in a "real" jazz club setting for an intimate concert with Ryan Keberle, one of most sought-after trombonists in the country. Following the performance, we spent some time with Ryan during which our students could talk about the show with him and ask questions about his approach to music, practicing, playing professionally, his times performing on Saturday Night Live, and more.
After a somewhat rainy performance at Busch Gardens, the band and Color Guard performed on the USS Wisconsin, one of the last and largest battleships built by the US Navy.
PMEA All State Jazz Pianist
Maxwell Du performed for the second year in a row as a member of the PMEA All-State Jazz Ensemble. Max is one of only 2 pianists in the entire state of Pennsylvania to earn this honor and this year, he was featured with the All-State Vocal Jazz Ensemble. Thank you to Max for representing your school, the band, and the Doylestown community so well!
Employability Class
Employability classes helped local businesses by decorating bags for Monkey’s Uncle and filling eggs for a community egg hunt this weekend for the Flow Smerconish Team of Compass Realtor.
