District Update
September 16, 2022
Dear East Ramapo Community,
Welcome to the 2022-23 school year! Last week, we had the privilege of greeting East Ramapo students as they arrived in our schools, classrooms, labs, libraries, cafeterias, gymnasiums and fields. For our little learners, this meant learning how to sit in a circle and wait their turn, but for the returning students it meant becoming familiar with the ambitious academic expectations in front of them. Regardless of where your student belongs in their intellectual journey, ERCSD staff is here to help students achieve a measure of success each and every day.
The district was a busy hive of activity swarming with action over this past summer. Extensive facilities upgrades occurred in several of our schools resulting in brand new floors and walls as a result of Federal funding from ARP-ESSER. In many of our other buildings, Expanded School Year (ESY) programs was happening, where hundreds of students engaged in academic and engaging enrichment opportunities. In August, we awarded well-earned diplomas to about about 40 students who participated in the Summer Bridge Credit Recovery/Attainment Program.
Join us tomorrow, Saturday afternoon in watching East Ramapo's two high school football teams compete against each other for the first time in years. The matchup between the Tigers and Gryphons goes down at 1pm at Ramapo High School, and I wish both teams the best of luck.
As we begin again, please accept my best wishes for a wonderful school year. Welcome back, East Ramapo.
Sincerely,
Dr. Clarence G. Ellis
Superintendent of Schools
Back to School across East Ramapo Central School District
Last week East Ramapo's 14 schools opened their doors to students for the 2022-23 school year. The kids are back to learning, growing and achieving, and it's only just begun. It's going to be a memorable school year. Welcome Back! Click here to watch the video.
Wifi Access Beyond the Classroom
This summer, East Ramapo Central School district extended its wireless networks way beyond the classroom, installing wireless technology at the press boxes of both Ramapo and Spring Valley High Schools.
Among the many advantages of this significant expansion is that the district will be able to live stream sports events. Student-athletes will now have access to the district wifi network on the track and in the bleachers, so it will no longer be necessary to head back into the building to send an email or work homework.

Students in East Ramapo Summer Bridge Credit Recovery/Attainment Program Graduated
Ramapo and Spring Valley High School students in East Ramapo Summer Bridge Credit Recovery/Attainment Program graduated on Wednesday, August 31, 2022 under sunny skies. Proud Teacher Lead, Liza Mazariego, ushered this group of about 40 students to accept their well-earned diplomas.
Superintendent of School Dr. Clarence Ellis, Principal Michael Phillips and Principal Karen Pinel, warmly addressed the students and families with congratulatory and inspiring words. Ms. Pinel quoted Booker T. Washington, reading “I have learned that success is to be measured not so much by the position that one has reached in life, as by the obstacles which he has overcome while trying to succeed."

Family Resource Center (FRC) Book Bag Giveaway on September 1
Through the generosity of community partners, East Ramapo’s Family Resource Coordinators (FRCs) distributed 1,100 book bags stuffed with essential school supplies to students in the district at the beginning of September. Family members waited patiently in line outside of Spring Valley High School to personally meet their FRC, receive the complimentary goods, and become familiar with some more benefits available to them.
