Important Information for Families...
Dear Crossroads Families-
Recently, I have been hearing lots of my little friends talking about watching very scary movies as well as telling stories about Grand Theft Auto and other violent video games. While media watching is a family's personal decision, I wanted to encourage you to read some information from Common Sense Media as well as the American Academy of Pediatrics. Ratings on movies and video games are given for a reason and should be closely paid attention to. And remember to monitor your child’s internet usage. Facebook and SnapChat have an age minimum of 13 years old in order to have an account legally.
If you have questions or concerns feel free to contact the School Social Workers, School Counselors, or your Child’s Pediatrician.
In partnership,
Julie Porath, MSW LICSW

Morning Drop Off ~ Building Independent Learners
At this time of the school year, we request families to say "goodbye" to their children at the front doors. Teachers and staff have a lot on their plate at the beginning of the day, since students eat in the classrooms. Saying "goodbye" to your child at the front door will help build independent learners. Most students now know their way around the school and we have plenty of grownups in the building to help those that might be sad or need extra support. We promise, your child will get to class and not get lost. Thank you for your help and understanding.

Winter Intersession Information
Families,
Winter Intersession confirmations will be sent out in Thursday folders on January 11th. Please check your student's backpack for this important information.
WINTER GEAR HELP!!
Winter has officially arrived her in MN!
Please send your child to school with clothing appropriate for 30 minutes of outdoor recess (i.e. winter coat, snow pants, hats, gloves, and snow boots). We have an extremely limited supply of these items here available for students, or donations of hats and gloves that do not tolerate getting wet so well.
If you are in need of Winter Gear, here are some community resources:
Joseph's Coat: Call 651-291-2472 to schedule a shopping appointment for a Monday or Wednesday 9am-3pm.
Together for Good: Call 651-440-4058 to schedule a shopping appointment.
Salvation Army: Call East Side Salvation Army (651-776-8169) or West 7th Salvation Army (651-224-4316) to see if they still have coats available.
If you are still in need of support, please contact Julie Porath, School Social Worker, at 651-744-3531
SPPS COLD WEATHER GUIDELINES
Saint Paul Public Schools uses the National Weather Service (NWS) wind chill chart to determine whether recess will be held outside. Wind chill is the temperature it feels like on your skin when the wind is blowing. The stronger the wind, the colder it feels.
Schools will keep students inside if the wind chill is expected to be colder than -10 degrees below zero. Regardless of the wind chill, students who do not have the appropriate winter clothing will not be able to participate in outdoor recess.
As you can see in the chart below, if the temperature is 10 degrees above zero with winds of 15 miles per hour, the wind chill would be -7 degrees. This would allow recess to continue outside safely. However, if the temperature is 0 degrees with a 5 mph wind, the wind chill would be -11 degrees, requiring recess to be held indoors.
