Get Googley: Calendar Hacks for the New Year
In this episode of UEN Homeroom, Dani and Matt are joined by Virgel Hammonds and Lillian Pace from KnowledgeWorks. Join them in conversation on PCBL (Personalized, Competency-Based Learning) in Utah, and get insight from these experts on what personalized learning looks like in the classroom and how we can support PCBL in our state.
In this course participants will learn the four indicators of the ISTE standard on Digital Citizenship: promoting positive interactions, understanding the influence of digital literacy and media fluency, protecting intellectual rights and property, and safeguarding personal data/privacy. Participants will be learning about the 'new' digital citizenship and how to guide and empower students in the digital world. You will be examining articles, videos, lesson plans, and other resources to help you curate and create your own engaging activities and resources to empower students and help them become effective digital citizens. At the conclusion of this course, you will be curating two resources and creating one collaborative activity for each indicator that you can use with your students. Register here.

Leading Schools Summit 2023

Our Leading Schools Cohort for 2023

The 2023 Leading Schools Summit was a three-day event that took place June 20-22 at Canyons School District and Adobe in Lehi. The summit was attended by about 70 principals from all across the state of Utah. This summit is a collaboration between Utah Education Network and Leading Edge Learning.


The summit covered various topics, including design thinking, personalized competency-based learning (PCBL), divergent thinking, creativity, and STEM. Dr. John Spencer keynote Day 2 of the conference. Principals also heard from Jessika Christensen from Davis School District on PCBL, Dan Amstrong from Adobe on Creativity, and Dr. Krista Ruggles from UVU on STEM and Robotics. The summit also included a tour of the Adobe building in Lehi.


In addition to the breakout sessions, principals also enjoyed networking and collaborating with their colleagues from other school districts. This was a great opportunity for principals to share ideas and learn from each other.

UEN PD at ISTELive 23 in Philadelphia

Last week, UEN Product Managers Kayla Towner and Matthew Winters presented at ISTELive 23 in Philadelphia alongside dozens of Utah educators. Over the course of the four day comference, Kayla and Matt presented to over 500 attendees on technology, podcasting, and more.


Matthew Winters also received ISTE's 20 to Watch Award for his work in professional development in Utah and beyond. Check out the photos below!

Educators are increasingly expected to exhibit skills and knowledge of using technology to enhance student learning. The UEN Educational Technology Endorsement Program is grounded in the USBE EdTech Competencies and the Utah Effective Teaching Standards. The Competency-Based Educational Technology Endorsement is divided into four courses. Participants will come away with a portfolio of work that aligns with each competency.

Four Corners Computer Science Convening - July 9th-11th

Four Corners Computer Science Convening
For K-12 educators and administrators that work directly with Native American students. If you already teach CS OR are curious about teaching CS OR would like to connect with others doing similar work, this conference is for you!

Utah Rural Schools Association Conference - July 12th-14th

The conference provides hands-on and breakout sessions focusing on insights and interventions with strategies to provide professional learning to improve student outcomes. Sessions will focus on strengthening mental and behavioral health supports, student supports, grading practices, literacy best practices, strengthening the guaranteed curriculum at each school and developing a culture of investment.

Resource Spotlight

The Utah Rural Schools Association Conference is coming up in mid-July and it is always a great resource for Utah educators and leaders. Throughout the year many rural educators are supported by one of the four regional service centers throughout Utah. Over the next few weeks, we will explore and highlight each one.


Northeastern Utah Educational Services supports districts and charter schools in the Northeastern area of Utah including Daggett School District, Duchesne School District, Morgan School District, North Summit School District, Park City School District, Rich School District, South Summit School District, Uintah School District, Wasatch School District, and charter schools in the area. They help provide professional development, eBooks, technology training, grant writing, and driver's education to schools in this region.
