News You Can Use for February 12, 2024
A Message from our Principal...
Happy February Larson Families! It’s hard to believe that we are already in the middle of the third quarter of the school year. Students have been working extremely hard since the holiday break and we are seeing exciting gains in our students reading and math scores compared to the start of the year. We look forward to seeing continued improvement as the year progresses.
Parent Teacher conferences will take place on Monday, February 19th. If you would like to schedule an appointment, please reach out to your child’s teacher or the front office.
We are always looking for parent volunteers and substitutes to work at Larson. If you are interested, please call or stop by the office for the required paperwork.
We appreciate all that you do for our Larson Eagles!

Title I Report Card to the Public
Dear Parent(s) and Guardian(s):
Recently the Alaska Department of Education & Early Development (DEED) released the 2022-2023 Report Cards to the Public for each school district and school in Alaska. These Report Cards present information about performance for the 2022-2023 school year. During this second administration of The Alaska System of Academic Readiness (AK STAR) assessment, students in grades 3-9 were assessed in English Language Arts and Mathematics. Students in grades 5, 8, and 10 took the Alaska Science Assessment.
Portions of the Report Card pertaining to Accountability will be delayed until May 2024 as DEED is working to revise the cut scores that determine what achievement levels students will receive. Once the new cut scores are accepted, the calculations will be completed.
To view our 2022-2023 School or District Report Card to the Public, go https://education.alaska.gov/compass/Report/2022-2023/33/330430#overview. This user-friendly website aims to provide families with clear, common information about all public schools and districts in our State. These Report Cards to the public contain data and information about academics, school environment, teacher quality, and more. If you are unable to access the Report Card to the Public online, please contact our school.
We know that the Report Card to the Public is just one of many ways you will engage with us at Larson Elementary. We look forward to sharing our school’s successes with you and working together to make our school better every day.
We hope you will closely follow your student’s academic progress and work with his or her teacher(s) to help ensure academic success. Working together as a team, we can improve not only how well our students are performing individually, but how our school and district is performing as a whole. There is nothing more important to administrators and teachers at Larson than ensuring that students are ready for the next step in their academic career. We look forward to partnering with you.
If you have any questions or concerns regarding our School or District Report Card to the Public, please don’t hesitate to contact us at 907-352-2300.
Sincerely,
Matthew LaHue

On Thursday, February 22, 2024, some Larson Elementary 4th grade students have been selected to participate in the National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP). The selection was random and determined by NAEP and letters were sent home to parents.
It is the largest nationally representative and continuing assessment of what students know and can do in various subjects. NAEP is different from our state assessments because it is a common measure of achievement across the country. The results are released as The Nation’s Report Card.
