DHS Weekly Update
Thursday, August 3, 2023
PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE
Hello,
The first week of school has brought in a Happy New Year for everyone at Decatur High School. Our new superintendent, Dr. Gyimah Whitaker, visited us on the first day of school. Wilson Center staff have been visible at DHS and interacting with our students, faculty, and staff.
Our tradition is to spend much of the first week of school building community in our classrooms. This week, the school administration witnessed this firsthand by visiting most classrooms/learning spaces. Some other ways in which we are building community are through class meetings for all grade levels where we set expectations for the school year, share support staff in the building for our students, and explain ways they can be involved at DHS, specifically through Student Government Association (SGA).
We want to thank the football team for setting the stage for the community. The team assisted administrators and teachers with classroom moves over the last several weeks. Also, at our final start of school meeting, Coach Felton, his assistants, and the football team presented all staff with a jersey to hang up in their rooms as a way to remind us of our connection as a community. The jerseys acknowledge the students’ commitment to academic excellence.
We want to thank all stakeholders for their role in making our start of the school year successful, and we look forward to growing as a commUNITY!
Sincerely
Duane Sprull
Principal

Returning families: please complete the Annual Data Update in the Infinite Campus Parent Portal before the first day of school!
It is essential for parents or guardians to complete the Annual Data Update by the start of school. Some "opt-out" selections around directory information or media sharing must be submitted via the ADU, or in writing to your principal, within the first 10 days of school each year. If you missed doing this the first few weeks, the ADU is still open to:
- make sure we have your current contact information
- provide your student's health information
- complete mandatory district signoffs
Please review the K-12 District Handbook and the Code of Conduct and Restorative Practices Handbook before completing the update. Click here for a larger copy of the graphic further below with directions on accessing and completing the ADU. Go here if you need help logging in.
