Black History Month
This month is the 53rd anniversary of Black History Month. This time of commemoration was originally known as black history week in 1926 until it was extended to a month in 1976. This month, we celebrate figures like Katharine Johnson, Rosa Parks, Nikki Giovanni, Tommy Smith, Maya Angelou, and many others who paved the way for equality for black people in America. Besides figures, we also celebrate black culture, which is a foundation for almost every aspect of American life.
The Black Student Union (BSU) will be having our Black History Month Assembly. The theme is Black History in the making, where we will focus on current figures and events and the future impact black people will have on America and possibly the world.
During the month of February in honor of Black History Month, the Archdiocese of Washington will be hosting several events
