MES Soaring to Success
Principal weekly update
Good afternoon parents!
Congratulations to all of the students that received perfect attendance awards for the first semester! Students and a guest were invited to receive certificates and ribbons on Friday afternoon. They also enjoyed some delicious cake!
This week we kicked off another Leader Board week for usage and correct amount questions answered on IXL! Three weeks ago we had a Leader Board week and Mrs. Zaborowski's class were the top producers, with Mrs. Grillo's in second place and Mrs. Connors in third. The two runner up classes will be treated to 10 minutes of extra recess and Mrs. Zaborowski's will be treated to 20 minutes of extra recess! Students do not know what subject was chosen for the week and on Friday afternoon they will find out which subject and which classes were the top 3.
I wanted to inform all parents about a special recess I would like to facilitate if the weather permits. During the winter months, I will send out a notice the night before that the next day will be snow day recess fun. All students who come to school with boots, a jacket, snow pants and gloves will be able to go in the snow for snow day activities during recess. All students who do not have these items with them will remain on the black top for recess. I wanted to give you some notice so that if your child does not have these items you would be able to get them before our first snow day recess day. We will not start this till next week sometime weather permitting!
Danbury Hat Tricks hockey players will be visiting us on January 9th to demonstrate their skills and to get students excited about the MES night at the Hat Tricks on Jan 13th. Make sure you see the PTO news to purchase your tickets!
Our next parent coffee hour will be for January/February to be held on February 2. We will be discussing Ben's Bells and our Year of Kindness!
Have a great week!

A Note from the Nurse
When should I keep my child home from school?
Consider keeping your child home if they:
- Have a fever of 100.1 degrees or higher
- Have been vomiting
- Have pink eye(s)
- Have flu like symptoms
- Have Covid-19 like symptoms or have tested positive for Covid-19 [please see school nurse for updated guidelines and recommendations]
- Have symptoms preventing them from participating in school such as:
- Excessive tiredness or lack of appetite
- Productive coughing or sneezing, inability to consistently cover cough/sneeze
- Headache, body aches, earache
- Sore throat
- Rash
- Keep your child home until their fever has been gone for 24 hours without the use of fever reducing medication. Please see school nurse for updated guidelines and recommendations concerning Covid-19. Colds can be contagious for at least 48 hours. Although your child's presence in school is important, returning to school too soon may slow the recovery process and expose others unnecessarily to illness.
