As you know, we do not have school on Monday in recognition of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day, which is observed every year on the third Monday in January. It is the only federal holiday designated as a national day of service. Here is a powerful quote from Dr. Martin Luther King Jr:

"Life's most persistent and urgent question is, 'What are you doing for others? "

I encourage our students and families to consider an act of service that they can do together in remembrance of Dr. King this weekend.

We understand at Liberty Ridge that personal mobile devices, specifically cell phones and smartwatches are becoming increasingly common. In order to support and comply with our district policy as stated in the 22-23 Student and Family Information Guide (pp.36-37), we are asking for your support with the following:

• Cell phones should remain in backpacks and are not to be used during the school day.

• Smartwatches must remain in “school mode” during the school day. (If you have the option as the parent to set this “mode” up on the device, we are asking for your support with this.) This means that the watch should be used for telling time only and may not be used for calling or texting during the school day.

• If you are in need of getting a message to your child, please contact our main office at (253) 891-4800. It is critical that any changes in transportation be communicated directly to the office by 2:30pm so that we can ensure your child can be safely supported by the LRE staff at the end of the school day.

• Smartwatches and cellphones may not be used for taking pictures or video while at school or on the bus ride to/from school. If a Smartwatch becomes a distraction to classroom instruction, the teacher or administrator may ask the student to put it into the backpack for the day.

Regional Elementary Curriculum Showcase*

When: Thursday, January 26th

Time: 5:30-7:00 PM

Location: Victor Falls Elementary

This district event will feature:

• Our Elementary core curriculum in Language Arts, Math, and Social Emotional Learning for each grade level.

• An opportunity to view our 5th grade Human Growth and Development (puberty) and HIV Videos

• Opt out forms will be available after viewing the videos for current 5th grade students.

• Meet and talk with some of our Liberty Ridge Elementary staff as well as teachers in nearby SBLSD schools.

• Obtain information about 2023-24 Kindergarten Registration and programs like READY for Kindergarten.

• Visit resource tables hosted by elementary specialists in PE, Music, and STEM.

• Light refreshments available

If you are unable to attend this event, please consider attending our other regional Curriculum Showcase:

• Tuesday, February 7th at Maple Lawn Elementary- 5:30-7:00

• Address: 230 Wood Ave. Sumner, WA 98390

*This is an adult event to provide parents with information about the elementary curriculum. There will be no activities for children nor childcare available.

• The Student has tested positive for, or is waiting on a test for COVID-19
• The student has been told to self isolate or quarantine by public health or a medical professional
• Any of these symptoms are present:

• Fever of 100.4 or higher

• Cough- frequent and persistent

• Loss of taste or smell

• Shortness of breath

• Fatigue

• Muscle or body aches

• Sore throat

• Congestion or runny nose

• Nausea, diarrhea or vomiting
