29 July 2021
Thank you, God,
for all your blessings to me and my family;
for the strength you give me each day
and for all the people around me
who make life more meaningful.
Amen.
Dear Parents and Staff
Over the past week many of us have become immersed in the Olympic events taking place in Japan. It has become a time of national pride as we see “our” athletes achieving so well. What we don’t see, however, is the many years of dedication and sacrifice that has honed their natural talents and abilities to allow them to perform on this elite stage. Very few, if any, of our children will ever have the opportunity to participate in an event such as this but they do have the potential to succeed in life. We constantly hear the athletes speak about what their parents and family have given up to support their dream and how they couldn’t have achieved as much as they have without this support. My question is; What are you prepared to do to support your child’s dream? When you’re tired and just want to relax, are you still willing to read with or to your child? Do you let them help you with your shopping so that they learn the value of money and items, even though it will take quite a bit longer? Do you take the time to teach them new skills such as cooking or fishing? Do you let them make mistakes or do you always step in to resolve their problems? Wouldn’t it be great if, when a successful adult, your child was to tell you that they couldn’t possibly have been so successful without your loving support and direction? I think that would be the best feeling ever and worth more than a medal of any colour.
CROSS COUNTRY
Congratulations to our children from Years Four to Six who represented our school so well in the Interschool Cross Country this morning. In very trying conditions the children all performed particularly well, placing Third overall. There were a number of excellent individual results which I will leave for Mr Webb to highlight in his article in next week’s Newsletter.
DISCO
It’s time to break out the dancing shoes and put on the party gear for this year’s P&F Disco tomorrow afternoon and evening. Our very supportive P&F have made all of the arrangements for this to be a memorable event, so we look forward to seeing all of the children enjoying a great time with their friends. Please remember that any photos or videos taken are not to be shared on social media.
ASSEMBLY
The Year 1M class has been preparing for their BIG performance for some time now so I look forward to seeing lots of the fun things they’ve been learning in class. With the current relatively relaxed regulations parents and family members are welcome to attend along with all of the other classes in the school Hall from 8.45am tomorrow.
CONFIRMATION
Many of our Year Six students will be receiving this Sacrament in a few weeks, so I ask all families to keep them in their daily thoughts and prayers during this time.

YEAR 4 CLASS NEWS
In Year Four we are ready to explore!
Early Settlement that is.
It all began last term when our teachers took us to the Fremantle Prison to see first-hand some of the buildings that our early settlers had built and we gained an insight into just how hard colonial life would’ve been. Too much work and not enough play, we think!
These pictures of us show the exercise yards, prisoners were known only as numbers and had to line up against the wall here so the guards could quickly account for everyone.
In HASS, we have started to learn about living conditions in London in the 1700’s. Lots of people were out of work, didn’t have a place to live and many got sick. We are going to learn about some early explorers, such as Dirk Hartog and Captain James Cook. Then, towards the end of the term we are going to present our ‘Awesome Aussies’ project. We can’t wait to do a project and present it to our parents, but most of all, we are looking forward to dressing up like the Aussie we choose.
We have been reading 'Letters from a Convict Girl' in our English lessons. These letters are so interesting and give us such insight into the many emotions faced by many leaving their home, friends and family to move to a new country, Australia. We are going to write our very own letter, pretending we were on the First Fleet.
Continuing with this theme during art lessons we are sketching an interpretation of a boat from the First Fleet. These boats were huge, but they carried lots of passengers too and certainly weren’t as luxurious as the cruise ships we have nowadays.
In Maths, we are focusing on our times tables. We are becoming Maths Ninjas and gaining all of our belts, aiming for the black belt – this means we know all of our times tables, even the hard ones like 7x, 8x, and 12x.
By the end of this term we would have learnt so much, we will be (almost) ready for Year Five!

'FUME FREE FRIDAY' STAR CARD WINNERS
Last Friday, the Year 6 faction captains collected student star cards as part of the ‘Fume Free Friday’ initiative last term to go into a draw for some great prizes. The students with the most star card punches would receive a $50 Rebel Sports voucher. A junior and senior raffle was then drawn to win a ‘Your Move’ backpack. Congratulations to Harry (5P) who won the Rebel Sports Voucher. Congratulations also to Leola (2P) & Amelia H (6P) who won the ‘Your Move’ backpacks. We will be continuing with the star card initiative on Friday’s this term for students who choose to walk or ride to school.
YOUR MOVE
Congratulations to Notre Dame who has now received Gold accreditation for all the fantastic work that has been done so far. We are looking at going bigger and better this term with a few promotions and initiatives planned with the help of our Year 6 students. Keep an eye out on the Your Move website and our newsletters to keep up-to-date.
INTERSCHOOL CROSS COUNTRY
Good luck to all Year 4-6 students representing Notre Dame at the annual Interschool Cross Country Carnival today at Tomato Lake. We wish the students the best of luck and hope it is a reasonably dry event…fingers crossed! It has been great to see so many students committed to training in not so ideal conditions over the last six weeks.
SPORTING SCHOOLS - SQUASH
This term, students in Year 5 & 6 will have the opportunity to sign up for squash lessons at Belmont Saints Squash Club on Thursday mornings (7.20am - 8.10am).
