Chopticon College Access and AP Information Night
Chopticon is hosting a College Access & AP Information Night at Chopticon High School on Thursday, February 28th at 6:00 p.m. This night will be for 8th through 11th grade students and parents.
As we all know, entering high school with this knowledge allows our students and parents to understand the process of post-secondary opportunities. The earlier the better.
Here are some questions that we would like to have students think about prior to starting 9th grade:
Why do the classes you take matter in high school - yes, even in 9th grade?
Want to earn college credits while in high school?
Should I take Advanced Placement courses? Why do they matter?
Want to be more competitive in college admissions?
What is a college admission rep looking for when reviewing an application?
What is a college looking for in my transcript?
Want to take the SAT for free?
Do I still need the SAT?
Want to play sports in college?
Am I eligible to play sports in college? - yes, you have to be academically eligible to play!
What is the Free Application for Financial Student Aid (FAFSA)?
Does everyone get financial aid?
How do I qualify for scholarships? When do you start applying for scholarships?

Upcoming Counseling Lessons
This year school staff are working to teach students about mental health and how to seek help if they are worried about themselves or a friend. We are using a program called SOS Signs of Suicide. The program teaches students about this difficult topic and encourages them to seek help. Please read the attached letter for more information.
