Eastview WIN Time on Wednesday Afternoons in the Learning Commons
Starting Wednesday, November 1st, students can benefit from an opportunity for academic support every Wednesday afternoon from 2:40pm – 4:15pm in the Learning Commons. Students are supported to complete their schoolwork learning in a supervised setting. Faculty and staff are available along with upper-class peer tutors (especially skilled in Mathematics). Students will identify their priorities (“What I Need” or “What’s Important Now”), create a plan for the most efficient use of their time, celebrate their accomplishments, and leave with a plan for continued success. Students do not need to sign up in advance for WIN Time. We do ask that students plan to be there for the start at 2:40pm so they can benefit from the full support. We will keep a log of students and their engagement (arrival/departure time and their focus/work while they are there). For students needing transportation home, activity buses will be available departing at 4:45pm.

Lightning Score Big Overtime Win in Rosemount on Hockey Night
Senior Forward Jordan Brothers scored in overtime to lift the Boys Varsity Hockey team to a 4-3 comeback road win over Rosemount on Thursday, January 4. Eastview overcame a 2-0 Rosemount lead with goals by Senior Forwards Caleb Nelson, Ethan Hansen and Cam Roth.
Nelson’s goal came at 3:19 of the second period off a great pass from Senior Forward Billy Downs. Hansen tied the game seven minutes later when he netted a rebound from a shot by Senior Forward Michael Cherevatsky. Just over five minutes into the third period, Hansen centered a pass to Nelson, whose shot was stopped by Rosemount’s goalie. But Roth tipped in the rebound for a 3-2 Eastview lead. With Senior Goalie Gabe Otis stopping everything the Irish shot at him, Eastview appeared to be headed for a regulation time win. But the Lightning were whistled for a penalty with 3:02 to go. Rosemount pulled its goalie and scored during a 6-4 skater advantage to send the game into overtime. Only 2:30 into overtime, Brothers collected a pass from Senior Forward Zach Wooten and ripped it into the Rosemount goal for the win.
The Lightning play Lakeville North on Tuesday, January 9 at 7:00 p.m. at the Apple Valley Sports Arena.
The Boys JV Hockey Team has been busy. They played Lakeville South on December 23rd. The JV Boys had a strong game, but the Cougars were able to score once. Zach Wakefield's game save percentage was 97% after facing 37 shots. Lakeville South JV won 0 to 1.
On Tuesday, January 2nd, the boys traveled to Shakopee to face the Sabers. The JV team took an early lead thanks to a goal by Liam O’Donnell however, the Sabers answered back, and the first period ended 1 to 2 Sabers. In the 2nd period, the score remained 1 to 2. Shakopee scored twice in the 3rd period ending the game 1 to 4 Sabers. Ty Young had a 91% save percentage with 45 shots on goal.
Last night, the hockey team faced off against Rosemount. The Irish got an early lead in the first period and didn’t slow down. The JV Lightning lost 0 to 8 despite the team’s efforts to find the back of the net. Zach Wakefield was in the net and faced 40 shots. The Eastview Boys Hockey team has the weekend off. The next game will be Tuesday, January 9th against Lakeville North at the Apple Valley Sports Arena. JV’s start time is 5pm.
GIRLS HOCKEY
The girl’s hockey team started their second half of conference play on Thursday night with a rematch against Metro-South and were able to pull off a 7-4 win. The scoring started early in the first period with Sari Cords scoring the first two goals of the game ten seconds apart. The first goal was assisted by Erin Hayward and Maisie Carney and the second was assisted by Ireland Murphy and Maisie Carney. Unfortunately, Metro-South responded with two quick goals, but Erin Hayward was able to find the back of the net, assisted by Ireland Murphy, to put the Lightning up 3-2 after the first period. Metro-South started the scoring in the second and again got two goals to put Eastview down 4-3, but once again, Erin Hayward was able to put a goal away, assisted by Sari Cords and Ella Schaefer, to tie the score 4-4 heading into the third period. With just under six minutes left in the game, Jaden Slominski scored the go-ahead goal assisted by Meredith Droege and Maisie Carney. The Lightning were able to put two more away to seal the win with the sixth goal coming from Ella Schaefer assisted by Sari Cords and the final goal coming from Erin Hayward, for the hattrick, assisted by Sari Cords and Ella Schaefer.
On Saturday, the Lightning faced Rosemount and fell short 2-1 in overtime. After two scoreless periods, Rosemount got out to a 1-0 lead on a power play goal with just over five minutes left in the game. However, Eastview didn’t give up and bounced back scoring the tying goal about two minutes later. Brielle Clardy scored the goal assisted by Ireland Murphy. Rosemount was able to put away the game winner with just under two minutes left in the overtime frame. Next up Eastview plays Lakeville North on Thursday night at 6pm at Apple Valley Sports Arena.

New: EV Choir Trip 2025 to Greece - Info Meeting 1/9
All 10th - 12th grade students (and their parents) currently in choir or thinking about joining choir next year are invited to attend an informational meeting to learn more about our 2025 Spring Break Greece Tour Tuesday, Jan. 9 at 7:00 PM in the Eastview Performing Arts Center. In addition to the Student Tour (which is open to any student in grades 10-12 next year who is registered for choir), we are offering a Family & Friends Tour. Perhaps you or other family and friends wish to travel to Greece with the choir!
The informational meeting is a great way to learn about what is included in the Tour, cost and payment deadlines, as well an opportunity to ask questions. The meeting will be run by GrandTours, the tour company that is organizing the trip. You do not need to make a decision as to whether or not your child will participate in the Tour until later this spring. Our hope is that, by having the meeting now, you will have time to think it over and, hopefully, join us for what is sure to be a once in a lifetime experience.
