Drop Off and Pick Up Updates
We are getting into a rhythm with dropping off and picking up students each day. A couple of reminders:
- If you pull into the side lot after 8am, please drive to the front of the school and sign your child into the office. There may be teachers still out front unloading some special services buses, but you will need to walk your child in.
- When dropping off from the car line in the side lot, we ask that your child exit the car from the passenger side and that you stay in your vehicle. This helps the flow and keeps everyone safe.
- Please do not park in the side lot and walk or allow your child to walk between vehicles in the drop off line.
- Any changes in afternoon transportation need to be made by calling the school prior to 1:00pm.
Thank you again for your patience and understanding!

VOLUNTEERING
Volunteering is an important part of our school community. There are both large and small roles. If you are interested in helping with a school event, being a tutor, grade level room parent or something else, please fill out this survey to show your interest. You are not required to volunteer if you fill it out but will help us share information with those who are interested. This survey includes volunteer opportunities for both PTA activities and regular school classroom activities.
- Please complete the volunteer interest form by selecting YES for ALL volunteer opportunities you might like to assist with. If you have multiple children at High Point, please select all teachers.
- An online volunteer application and background check (only for those working with students one-on-one or small groups) will be sent within 2 weeks of completing the google interest form.
- Once approved as a volunteer you will receive communication about signing up for specific dates/times to volunteer.

These Shoes are Made For Walking
As mentioned above, the Walkathon is coming up quickly. Please make sure your child has a sturdy pair of athletic shoes for the day. Flip flops, slip on shoes, and some canvas shoes may not provide support for the multiple miles your child will be walking. If you need assistance with this, please email our school counselor, Mrs. Diol at diolj@gjps.org. Thank you!
Worry Warriors Group Opportunity
Liz Spiker, our Concord Prevention Counselor, is offering a Worry Warriors group for the fall. Several grade level groups will be offered based on interest. This group is a free service and will occur once a week during the school day for 6 weeks.
If your student has worries they can't let go of, experiences stomach aches or headaches with no physical illness, struggles to sleep at night due to worried thoughts, or experiences worry in other ways, Worry Warriors is an opportunity for your student to build strategies for understanding and coping with their worries effectively.
During our group time, students can talk about specific worries and how to tell when they're worried. We will learn and practice different ways to handle worry, including talking to a trusted adult, using positive self-talk, focusing on what we can control and more.
Please indicate your interest by completing this form by Monday, October 2. Liz Spiker will reach out to ensure this group will be the best fit for your student and to update you on the schedule.
For questions, Liz can be reached at 614-269-4747 or spikere@gjps.org.
COVID Update
On May 11, 2023, the federal government declared the COVID-19 public health emergency to be over. In this light, Franklin County Public Health has rescinded the Franklin County COVID-19 public health emergency. This update ended school districts’ obligation to contact trace and report COVID positive cases within the community.
FCPH and CDC guidance remains as follows: “After testing positive, you should stay home for 5 days regardless of vaccination status. After 5 days, you may end isolation if you are fever-free for 24 hours (without use of fever-reducing medicine) AND your symptoms are improving.”
